Just got back from this movie and wow. Definitely think it deserves its own thread. When the whole theater erupts in a unanimous "WOW" when the credits role, you know you watched something special.

I think its Finchers best work and thats saying something considering he's the man behind Fight Club.

It's not his fault, the movie was well acted and well directed - but the story is painful. It hangs it's hat on a single twist, which everyone I saw the movie with saw coming after the first 15 minutes. The whole damn ordeal was made just for a one-line pay-off in a scene between Affleck and *insert spoiler name here* towards the end of the movie.

The whole movie is just an overly cynical look at the institution of marriage. The story was predictable, and the ending is only "wow" because Affleck is a morally bankrupt character who is okay with it. He cheated, he was manipulated, and he is sitting back and throwing his arms up and saying "well, whatever".

I know I'm in the minority when it comes to this, but outside of Affleck's performance, there was nothing great about this movie in my eyes. Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac, and The Social Network were all better.

Saw it on Saturday and loved it. As far as Fincher films go I'd rank them

1. Fight Club
2. Se7en
3. Gone Girl
4. Zodiac
5 Social Network

Trent Reznor killed it with the soundtrack though.

I wanted to try and catch it this wknd, but couldn't make it.

I read the book earlier this year and at first wasn't super impressed with it. I could see why it's a bestseller, but I didn't think Flynn accomplished anything that special to merit the glowing reviews. But it's a book that sticks and as I thought about it more I became more impressed with it. If anyone is on the fence about spending the time to read it, I'd encourage them to do so.

Glad to see the film is garnering positive reviews. I think David Fincher is just the director for this. Can't wait to see it.

I thought it was awesome despite seeing the twist coming. I'm guessing most people will know what's coming. The climax and aftermath was a tad silly, but it worked for me in the spirit of the movie. It was darkly comic.

Everyone involved was top notch. Fincher, DP Jeff Cronenweth, the editors, Affleck. The score is still playing in my head and I think Reznor & Ross will get a well deserved Oscar nomination.

The big star of this is the Rosamund Pike. She might win best actress.

Fincher's top films imo.

I have to rewatch Benjamin Button and give it a score and rank. It would probably be around Panic Room or below if I recall.

I adore David Fincher and he's probably my favourite all time director alongside a cult fave John Carpenter.

for me it was good until she got mugged. After that is was just the movie trying to get her back to Nick to set up the ending.

I found the movie quite funny but it just dragged through the whole Nancy grace and nicks interview with the other reporter and the desi holding her hostage.

For me it was okay 2.5 stars.

I will say that the music was fantastic and Rosalind pike deserves a nomination as she was excellent.

I read the synopsis and saw Ben Affleck in it, I was kind of 'meh'. But then I saw it was a David Fincher film and figured it deserved a look.

The only film of his that I didn't really like was The Social Network.

How was Neil Patrick Harris? I have trouble picturing him in anything serious.

i agree with what ive read from people who didnt like it. the twist was obvious, the story totally fell off the rails when she was mugged, it really felt like a lot of potential for a great movie just wasted.

LOL, the "writers" is the same lady who wrote the book, and it ends the same way.

Personally, I loved the ending. Really leaves you with a haunting feeling.

It wasn't a perfect movie but it was entertaining and Rosamund Pike was fantastic. Best nut job woman performance since Glenn Close in fatal attraction.

Realistically, you get the kid the hell out of there. I get that he's probably now not thinking straight either after the whole ordeal, but the happy couple announcing the pregnancy on tv and everything? I get this type of movie is best suited with a happy ending but I feel there was so much more potential there

How do you get your kid out of there when she's only a few months pregnant?

And how is that a happy ending? He's trapped in a marriage with a psychopath for the sake of his child, with no idea of what she's going to do.

Finding a way for him to escape her, and her getting getting her comeuppance, would be way more cliche. Leaving the innocent husband trapped and the psycho in control at the end of the movie is much edgier, IMO. How many movies end with the villain getting away with it?

There's no way in this day and age of police investigation she would get away with faking her pregnancy, rape, or the murder of NPH's character. However that really doesn't get in the way of the fact that the movie was entertaining. That scene where Pike spits in that chick's drink is memorable in itself.
