Guys like Pelletier and Coronato have way more top 6 six upside when it comes to production, but they probably aren't going to benefit from playing on the 4th line. They are skilled but need to play with other skilled players to see that upside.

If Pelletier and Coronato can't seize a top 9 spot, I would rather see them start in the AHL in top 6 roles, and have a player like Klapka make the team on the 4th line. If you play young players on the 4th line, you risk developing them into 4th liners.

I fully expect Coronato to make the team out of camp though. Pelletier, I am not sure of.
I'm sure both Coronato and Pelletier make the team. However, I don't see both Pelletier and Coronato getting a spot in the top 9.

Top 9 wingers locked to start next season(5): Huberdeau, Mangiapane, Sharangovich, Dube, and Coleman.

There's only one spot, and I think it's Coronato's to lose because he plays RW.

Fun interview with Nikolaev, when he said it's always big game against oilers at NHL, so as at prospect game too.
I hope few prospects get a couple preseason games. Ciona, Klapka, Kuznetsov, Nikolaev and Kerins. May be Morin too.

Agreed. And also because Pelletier can be effective on the 4th line but Coronato can't - he either plays top 9 or goes to the A for a while.

This is why I wanted to trade Backlund. Pelletier should be playing top 9

Wingers. There are only six wingers in the top 9. Pelletier would not replace Backlund, a center, on the team.

I can't tell if you're serious. Doesn't 9 come right after 5 when you count?

I'd put Dube at 3C.

Which one of Lindholm, Kadri, and Backlund is not in your top 9?

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Coronato
Mangiapane-Kadri-Sharangovich
Pelletier-Backlund-Coleman
Ruzicka-Dube-Klapka

There's room for both in the top 9. And the balance looks quite nice, I think.

So Dube has a career season and you put him on the 4th line with a rookie and a half?

You forgot Duehr on the 4th line, and Dube deserves a spot in the top 9, at least a lot more than either Pelletier or Coronato. He had 45P last year, and I see him getting 55 this year.

More like a 1A line and three 2nd-3rd lines. Dube with Klapka would overwhelm the opposition with speed and tenacity, with some scoring ability. And yes, gvitaly, I should have put Duehr there instead of Ruzicka. The old Flames' stereotypical slow, grinding 4th line would be replaced with a fun, fast, dynamic, high-pressure line of youngsters that could have as much ice time as any other line other than the Lindholm one.

The main squad would've smoked the Oiler prospects.

Putting Dube on the fourth line wreaks of Bennett's treatment. Dude just took a step, if you think he's ready for a prominent centre role, trade Backlund or Lindholm. In either case, he should be in the top 9, likely the top 6.

Don't forget that one of the things the team has preached is that the stars need to play more minutes, so people stacking the fourth line with skill players need to reconcile that those skill players are going to barely play.
