Ipod troubles

Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. When I connect my ipod to my computer I get a pop-up that says it can't recognize the hardware. I've uninstalled the drivers and updated all itunes what else should I do?

Try a different USB cable or USB port?

Sure did and everytime I do I get the same error message
