I read that they pulled most/all of the art out yesterday in prep for some reconstruction. CBC also said there were NO workers on site today.

The best college class I ever took was a heavily-subsidized summer course through the UofL where we spent one semester in Paris studying art history/architecture of the city. We spent several days at the Cathedral, and the thinking and craftsmanship in the building are amazing.
It truly is a priceless piece of architecture, and and integral piece of the country's history. I hope the damage is minimal.

From the last I saw, I think the entire building is going to be lost

I just read that the spire has collapsed. This is horrible.

At this point, I'm not sure that would help at all. Once the fire started it wouldn't have taken long to engulf the building. The roof and frame are made up of oak trees, and really old ones at that.

they wouldn't have that kind of kit close by, southern France has forest fires and water bombers but that's hundreds of miles away

The reports are all saying accidental, related to renovation construction. Because of the age of the wood frame, there’s not a lot they can do to save it. Sounds like they’re evacuating everyone on the island.

I was thinking something along the line of bambi buckets for helicopters, they are used around here for forest/grass fires. surely a city as large as Paris has a couple available

god I wish I could have seen what this was. My bet's on a gif taken from Reddit.
I hope that report about the art being removed prior is true.

One of the things I wanted to see in my lifetime.
An absolute shame is an understatement. So much history, culture and heritage wiped away.

Meanwhile, the usual suspects are already pointing the finger at Muslims. There’s almost certainly going to be retaliatory violence against mosques and individual people, even though legitimate sources are saying it’s simply human error.

Vandalism and arson of churches is nothing new in Europe, though much of it is instigated by far-left atheists. I'd be interested to know when exactly the fire first broke out. Were restoration crews at work at the time or had everyone clocked out?

Is it bad that that was my exact thought the nanosecond I heard about this?

This is really sad.
I'm glad my wife and I had a chance to visit and tour it back in October.
