Would be costly but Jones would look great back in the dome.

The sad thing is, is Martin Jones sat right underneath our noses for years we didn't bother to grab him even after winning it all in Calgary

Raanta was outstanding in 2017-18, going 21-17-6 with a .930 save percentage and a 2.24 goals-against average.
Without him in net, the Coyotes struggled badly, as the club’s other goaltenders combined for a dismal 8-24-6 record.
So they obviously not "a last place team with or without him" as you say.
If he puts up numbers like this in Arizona imagine what he would have done here. Not to mention he's still 29 and has at least 3 or 4 more solid seasons to go.

It seems unlikely that we could make a major trade for a goalie this year because I feel like we'd have to move Smith as well or risk losing Rittich on waivers, not to mention create a further log jam.
If Smith continues to struggle Rittich will get the net.
If Rittich and Smith both struggle maybe we look at some options.
For me if we want to bring in a new goalie Schnieder might be the most logical.
I'm sure NJ could sign Kindkaid for cheaper than Schnieders $6m for the next 3 seasons after this.

The Kings signed Jones in October 2008. He hadn't won anything yet. He wasn't even the Hitmen's starter the previous season.

What would the return on Cory Schneider look like? Former elite level goalie whose still only 32, but injuries have been holding him back. Has potential to return to form but also could just succumb to the injuries. 6m owing for 3 years on a budget team. They’d have to take Mike Smith salary wise (whose contract is expiring so wouldn’t be a problem for them) but how much do you have to add? Is taking the salary almost enough, along with a mid round pick and a low level prospect? I know it seems low but taking on the salary is a big deal.

Who was offering the same or better contract offered by the Flames?

Before Kinkaid's last 4-5 games, most posters here had likely never heard of him LOL.

Played well with no pressure when they were out of it...jury is still out on him being a "franchise goalie"

Yeah, Raanta's numbers in 2017 through 20 games were not stellar. His 0.912 SP then was virtually identical to his 0.911 SP registered in six games of this season as of today.

Yeah. We need to see better numbers from him when the games matter. Goaltenders that save their best for when the pressure is off aren't a solution for making the playoffs.

Raanta played well enough to prevent a draft lottery win.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Also worth noting that the pressure is off much sooner in Arizona than other markets. Garbage time starts around, oh, January?

Eventually. Connor McDavid scored enough points to win the scoring race.

Mike Smith will be fine. He was our MVP (maybe co-MVP with Gaudreau) last season, made the all-star game and we would have made playoffs if we didn't get hurt. He's consistently .915 SV% goalie the last 5+ years. He's a legit starting goalie.
The issue this season is the odd man breaks against. You eliminate those and Smith gets better.
The post should be who does Treliving target as potential replacement for Mike Smith this summer for next season. Do we keep Smith on short term contract extension (maybe, if trade or UFA aren't best options), are Rittich/Gillies ready to step in as full time starters (my answer is no), who on the market can we get via trade or UFA (haven't looked at options but seems most likely). A lot of question marks next season for goalie, which worries me.

His whole season numbers were excellent, full stop. There is zero pressure in Arizona at any time IMO. I think it’s a little unfair to pick a 20 game stretch and say he was just average.

I don’t get this thread. It was posted after the Nashville game where Smith wasn’t at fault on any of the goals.
Short term we don’t need to replace Smith.
Long term we’re hopefully replacing Smith with one or more of Rittich, Gillies and Parsons. Those are our goalies of the future.
All this talk of trading significant assets for old goalies is totally misplaced IMO
