Simmonds is a PP guy, and when he's on, one of the best guys at tipping pucks and banging in rebounds the league has. What he offers fits perfectly for Nashville, particularly with their blue line. Hartman is depth. It would surprise me not at all if Simmonds scored some big goals come playoff time. This seems like a no-brainer.

That's my thought too - PP maybe gets better but it's a wash at Even Strength at best.

Hartman at Even Strength:

G: 10 A: 10 P: 20 SOG: 110 CF%: 52.8% Hits: 69 EV TOI: 804 PP TOI: 21
Most Common Linemates: Bonino & Jarnkrok

Simmonds at Even Strength:

G: 11 A: 8 P: 19 SOG: 97 CF%: 48.6% Hits: 113 EV TOI: 838 PP TOI: 187
Most Common Linemates: Nolan Patrick & Scott Laughton

So almost the same player, and biggest difference appears to be that Simmonds gets to play top line PP with Giroux and Voracek to compile stats, where Hartman doesn't.

I'm actually not sure this is a great trade for Nashville. Still they get better though because I really like the Granlund trade.

that's too bad... not much you can do if you are BT and the player doesn't waive his NTC...

i would have liked him after falling out from the stone discussion...

And now maybe he does?

For some reason, this ticks me off way more than it should.

We're the top team in the conference.

I actually don't blame him.

Guy is playing for a contract and I'm not really sure he fits with our style of play. I'm assuming he looks at Neal and how that's worked out and thinks he's just not going to fit in.

Plus his play will be under way more scrutiny in this market vs Nashville as well and that itself could hurt him getting another contract.

It's too bad Calgary couldn't swing a deal for Hartman from Philadelphia. Would of been a nice playoff piece.

This sounds likely and reasonable. I can accept that.

FWIW Friedman on 960 thinks the Flames were close to landing Simmonds but he thinks Philly liked Nashville's offer better. Doesn't mention Simmonds NTC.

What would it have been?

Most similar players to Hartman would be Bennett and Jankowski. Can't imagine Flames fans would have liked that.

Maybe Hathaway and a 3rd? or Lazar and a 3rd?

I think we need Hathaway for the playoffs. Guy is a warrior.

Simmonds was the guy i wanted the Flames to add the most. This team is too easy to play a physical game against.
This deal was very doable for Treliving, PHI didn't ask for much in return from NSH.
Opportunity lost for the Flames is the way i see it and NSH got tougher to play against.

Hartman would've been one hell of an add for the Flames IMO. Too bad today didn't pan out for tree.

Simmonds would have been a massive upgrade on Hathaway though...same position and all, and both UFA at years end.

I doubt Hathaway and a 4th would of worked for Philly.

This likely would have been Jankowski and a 3rd or something but Janko doesnt have the kind of jam that Hartman possesses in spades, so maybe not even that.

Likely would have been Bennett and a 4th to make it happen actually.

You tend to add for the POs. You don't do one for one trades too often.
