Icon56 Jets to announce multi year extension for HC Paul Maurice

@DarrenDreger

Jets owner Mark Chipman is expected to announce a multi year extension for head coach Paul Maurice as part of today’s Jets Hall of Fame luncheon.

@NHLJets

#NHLJets have agreed to terms with head coach Paul Maurice on a multi-year contract extension.

interesting on how i thought i read reports earlier this season Mo was on shaky ground; however, I sort of discounted them given the jets roster situation with Buff this year and the possible trickledown issue.

i gotta hand it to the jets fro trying to create some team stability given they likely face a bit of an uphill battle with FA and Wpg being on many guys no go lists

Not sure if a coaching extension really means stability given that firing a coach is much easier than making a significant trade.

The only thing that has changed is that Maurice has more financial security for the next few years

Its a reward for good work. Doesn't guarantee anything though as really few extensions do.

Jets probably contacted the available coaching candidates and they said nope. No choice but to extend Maurice.

gives some organizational stability - by the time the jets fie mo the flames could likely be on coach #3.

He's been there seven years and have not had as much success as I would expect from the talent they have had on the roster. He's done a pretty good job this season given their defense but how does a team with Scheifele, Connor, Laine, Wheeler, Ehlers, Morrissey, Hellebuyck, etc make it out of round one only once? Seems similar to the Flames where the bar is set to only making the playoffs. You would think maybe they would want to see what this group could do with a different coach before they have to start dismantling the core.

Maurice has a solid relationship with Seattle GM Ron Francis. He would have been the best fit as Seattle's first coach.

Good for the small Canadian markets that he choose to stay in Winnipeg

Good. Maurice isn't a coach that I would want for the Flames, and this keeps another market from snatching up someone good in the off-season, just in case the Flames end up making a change.
