Default Domain Name Valuation

I've been sitting on a domain name for a few years with plans of using it eventually. As with most of these extra domains I own, it's just sitting there.

I've been contacted by GoDaddy's domain broker that I've had an inquiry about purchasing it. They're asking for a price I'd be willing to let it go for.

I've used their Domain Value Appraisal tool and it gave me a $6,041 valuation.

estibot.com valued it at $600.

qeip.com gave a short term sale price at $3,763 and long at 13,170.

The estimates are all over the place.

Has anyone sold a domain name through GoDaddy's brokers? How accurate is their valuation tool?

I mean, if the plan was just to hang on to the domain name anyways, why not ask for the top price. If they say no, then you can keep it like you were going to.

That's what I would probably do.

Domain names that are short are in high demand and will command a decent price. Or...one that is unique and the purchaser "needs" to have. Most others have relatively little value, especially if not in the .com TLD.

About 20 years ago I sold a domain for a client for a 5-figure sum ($US!)...but it fit the above profile...short, .com and desirable. (Oddly it is still not in use, b/c the investor who purchased it is still sitting on it.)

I started dealing with brokers and found all of them to be totally useless and only interested in their commission...likewlse "valuators". It's worth what you can negotiate a deal for.

5 letters or less is ideal and valuable.

OTOH, anything you can get someone to pay is worth it if you're not using it....

So....if you're looking for quirq.com because that's the name of your business...you're probably prepared to pay for it.....(just a random selection from my brain).
