Roy is a decent prospect but this is a great move by Carolina.

Not exactly how LTIR works but it paints the picture.

Jesse Granger’s thoughts: The move is the first step for Vegas toward getting compliant with the freshly-set salary cap of $81.5 million for the 2019-20 season. The Golden Knights already have a projected cap hit of $89,024,999, according to Cap Friendly.
Moving Haula’s $2.75 million contract lowers that to $86,274,999. Once Vegas places David Clarkson on the long term injured reserve list, his $5.25 million salary comes off the books, placing Vegas just below the cap at $81,024,999.

A year removed from a 30 goal season but last year was a near write-off (15 games played).
He's only making 2.75M, for the shot at a 30 goal player, that's a no-brainer for Carolina and really shows how desperate Vegas is to make room.
There was talks that he could be available in the playoffs if the Knights went far enough so he should be ready to start the season if there was no setback.

Erik Haula is a really good player. Props to the Hurricanes. Glad to see Vegas finally lose something.

Moving a good value $2.75M contract for cap purposes seems weird.
You still need to replace him - so you only really save $1.75M

Me too. But I imagine the flames had no chance at him... Vegas would not likely trade a good player on a good contract as a cap dump to a division rival.

Haulava player, Haulava contract, Haulava sudden Vegas is starting to break down their roster.
I'd still love to get Reeves.

I had actually forgotten about him with missing most of the year. But yes, I see no way that Vegas would dump him on a division rival. Would be a good fit on the Flames.

You can’t move bad contracts these days without taking cap back, so your only choice is to move decent players if you want to save cap.

Vegas sure burned through all that cap space pretty quick. Wonder how much they regret that Pacioretty deal now.

He also missed pretty much all of last season with a knee injury, which is tough for a guy whose biggest asset is his skating. Makes me wonder if Vegas had concerns about his recovery.

How does that value Frolik? I’m thinking Haula worth more.
