Ganger had a 8 point game in his late 20's. he also put up a 50 point season after leaving the Oilers where he was saddled with poor line mates. I think the difference between our points about Bennett and Foo can be demonstrated by the fact that you needed to qualify your point with "technically". And maybe foo is a 41 goal scorer, if so I will be overjoyed.

And again being saddled to poor linemates is a false narrative. He spent 5% of his time with Brouwer and Jankowski did fine with Hathaway as his winger.
|
Not sure how Jankowski's linemates is relevant to trying to figure out why Bennetts points dipped season to season? For that you need to compare who Bennett played with each time. Are you saying you think Janko and Hathaway are = Backland & Frolik?

The problem with the whole argument on the past few pages is that it started beacause someone suggested including Bennett in a trade for a super star goalie (in the trade speculation thread mind you) and the usual Bennet stans going insane that everyone just wants to trade him before he develops. Suggesting to include Bennett in a trade that nets you a superstar, particularly at this point in his stalling Flames career, is not an outlandish idea. The only thing outlandish is the idea that bennett has the value to net said player, not that trading him would be a terrible thing for the team to even consider.
Bennett still might work out. But if he is part of a trade that upgrades the team then that should be viewed favorably.

Actually, that was cleared up real quick with “Bennett isn’t valuable enough to land Bobrobsky” What kicked it off was the regular haters losing their mind after one pre-season game.
That said, this was all more interesting than “what is the definition of discount”
I don’t think there’s a single poster here who wouldn’t trade Bennett to secure an all-star goalie, even if that’s pretty much impossible. What a lot of posters reject is the idea that Bennett is waiver fodder. Because that’s a bad take.

Yeah, that is true and I would like that too. It is never a bad problem to have when all your 1st rounders turn into stars.
But I really do feel that Bennett is going to develop into a nice supporting play at least.

Development isn't always linear. Just because a player struggles in his early 20's does not mean he's doomed. That's reality. There's really endless examples of players who broke out in their mid 20's. Just because Bennett went high and entered the NHL early does not mean he can't be one of them

Lots of people here wanted BackLund traded some saying he was injury prone.

But what has Bennett regressed to?
The sample size isn't significant enough to suggest he regressed. A lot of players are still prospects at age 22, so in order to say he regressed, you would have to assume that his rookie year was his best. I don't think that is fair.
The issue with Bennett is that his development as a prospect has been on display for everyone because he has been in the NHL the whole time. Maybe he won't start progressing more, but, it is too early to tell.
I do agree that next season is critical for him, but at this point, I feel the fanbase needs to be a little more patient.

And again, if he doesn’t become a top line guy there is nothing wrong with having a player like him as a solid bottom six guy.

How about Nick Ritchie? Ducks are having a hard time getting him signed.
We were rumoured to be very high on him at the draft and there was plenty of talk that we were going to grab him over Bennett. We could definitely use a guy like him.
Johnny, Money, Lindy
Chucky, Backlund, Neal
Ritchie, Ryan, Czarnik
Bennett, Jankowski, Frolik

If we had a second round pick, I’d offer sheet nurse @ 4 million x 1 year in a heartbeat.

Please don't be an injury...
Edit: Sounds like he left yesterday's practice early with a minor injury. Guessing he sits out tomorrow mornings game then.

It's a little weird to tease news regarding an injury isn't it?

Not really, if they are having practice he's probably on the ice but not hopeful for the next game. But to your point, it's more of an update rather than "news".
