Love that this matchmaking backfired on Dana and the UFC, feels like sweet justice.
Making Chimaev vs Nate was basically an attempted hit on Nate to try and embarrass him on the last fight of his deal.

Very happy for Ferguson too, this should have been the original fight made - both have fallen off but it should be a great fight between two OGs with high striking volume and great BJJ

Happy about Diaz Ferguson fight for sure- it’ll be great. Would love to see chimaev get humbled but doubtful that happens against Holland.

Part of me thinks the UFC is carney enough that this was the plan the whole time and was a way to generate some noise and media the day before a PPV.

Conspiracy theorist in me is starting to think Khamzat did this on purpose, he probably respects Nate and also thinks the UFC was trying to do Nate dirty. Doesn't want to humiliate him when he already has one foot out the door and instead decides to miss weight on purpose to fight Holland, who he has actual beef with as they got into a backstage brawl yesterday that got the press conference cancelled.

In any case it's funny how all this chaos has actually resulted in a better card now than the one before. Didn't care for 279 at all, but now I'm really looking forward to it. If this is Nate's last fight with the UFC I hope him and Tony put on a classic all-timer.

Based on Tony's ability to take a beating, I'd still think Tony wins, but Nate is more prepared and fit than Tony at this moment. Tough one to call as it does seem like it will be a free for all.

The conspiracy theory angle is likely correct. I hate fight promos as they're known to be WWE BS to get more PPV registrations, but it certainly seems like something plausible (what mile said). I really don't like White as a person, so any time a union starts to come together, I think it would be great. Many of these guys are one hit away from major damage, and they should be earning more than 50k. If this is what they can do to help one another out, I'm for it.

I kinda wanted to see Diaz get his face smashed in by Chimaev

Why though? I understand he's trashy in his own way, but the guy has always been an underdog, and for the most part pretty real. He's not looking for soundbites or playing into fight promos, he's just a guy who probably wasn't good enough for much else but this and is making a living doing it. I don't like trash of most kinds, but there's something about him that's different.

Man, Daniel Rodriguez really didn't deserve that win. Li looked really good and for the most part was more aggressive. Interesting decision. Was about to put a little money down when at the end Rodriguez was 4.75 to win (as if it went to a decision, it was evidently a wildcard). Too bad.

Fans are morons for booing that fight, especially when Li accepted a fight against a guy 10 pounds heavier on short notice

Thought Li won, did more damage IMO

Chimaev was crazy. Don't see big guys do submissions like that. Really fast and technical. Definitely see the Khabib comparisons.

Chimaev is funny. You can tell he's probably a really nice guy but he's trying to be a heel because he's getting booed haha

Would be happy if either Nate or Tony won, just hope it’s a good fight that makes both of them look good

Neither guy looks impressive. Both guys look like dad's fighting on the front lawn. Honestly. No excuse for Nate to come in like this on his contract fight.

This is such a weird fight. Diaz is out of shape, Ferguson is turtling and cowering when any pressure is put on him. Diaz could easily finish him but he's not being aggressive. Both guys should lose.

If this is it for Nate, I’m glad he got a win

The pace picked up as the fight went on, it was a fun fight while it lasted. If these two fought 4-5 years ago it would have been even better

Sounds like he’s starting his own fight promotion

This was really fitting:

Both Nick and Nate are punks that run their mouths and could never back it up.

Nate had what, one big win over Conor? Aside from that I remember him not being able to get it done in the big moments. He was never good enough at 155 or 170.

Honestly, I think Nick and Nate Diaz are two of the most over rated fighters in the history of MMA.

But they always put on a show win or lose, so they have a huge fan base.

Not a lot of championships for them, but a crap ton of "fight of the night" honors.

Isn't that the point? to put on a show?
