Little jaded that he gained most of the advantage after an illegal glove hold but credit where it's due.

Looking back at it, that glove grab may have changed the momentum of the whole fight. Lead to all that ground and pound.

Herb Dean needs to stop reffing these main event fights. He let McGregor hook the gloves with his fingers in the trilogy fight and the Khabib fight.

It was brutally obvious, not sure how Dean missed that, he's supposed to the be best ref in the game. Oliveira is the real deal though.
Rematch I'd still bet on Poirier for what it's worth.

Yeah that was surprising. No possible way he could see anything, and while I understand the ref not stopping it, I would’ve expected the corner to protect their fighter.

Probably should have been stopped by the doctor after the first, but don't think Alvarez's corner did anything wrong by not throwing in the towel.

Cain Velasquez facing attempted murder charges for a shooting on Monday

MMA and pro wrestling star Cain Velasquez is still in jail and has been charged with attempted murder.
As noted, there was a shooting near San Jose, CA on Monday, and San Jose police said Velasquez was involved. The shooting happened around 3:14pm local time, in Morgan Hill, near Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue. Police would not confirm Cain’s role in the incident, but one man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and another man was arrested. Court records revealed that Cain was in the Santa Clara County jail, with no bond, but no other details were available at that time.
In an update, TMZ Sports reports that Velasquez has been arrested and booked on an attempted murder charge. Police confirmed that he was the suspect in the alleged shooting incident on Monday in San Jose.

Velasquez, 39, is accused of targeting Harry Eugene Goularte, who is charged with allegedly molesting one of Velasquez's young relatives. Velasquez faces 10 counts that could carry more than 20 years of jail time if he is convicted, per a court document.

According to the district attorney's office, Velasquez was following Goularte's truck in his own vehicle during an "11-mile, high-speed chase" though San Jose, rammed the truck and then fired a 40-caliber handgun multiple times into the truck, which carried Goularte and two older relatives. Goularte's 63-year-old stepfather, Paul Bender, was struck once in his arm and torso but he is expected to survive, court documents said.

They should have stopped that way earlier.
I think the sport needs to establish some level of damage that justifies a stoppage.
Just going until the guy says he can't or his corner does isn't safe enough.

I thought so too, but he was going forward in the 5th and fighting intelligently.

If the doctor was fine with his ability to see out of that eye that was beat to a bloody pulp, it's really up to his corner to stop it.

UFC star Jorge Masvidal was taken into custody Wednesday night in Miami Beach on charges of aggravated battery with bodily harm and criminal mischief, both of which are considered felonies, according to an arrest report obtained by ESPN.

Masvidal was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 10:27 p.m. local time Wednesday and is being held on $15,000 bond, per online records. According to the arrest report, Masvidal's attorney called Miami Beach police Wednesday and police instructed Masvidal to surrender.

The Miami Beach Police Department redacted the name of the man in the report, but Masvidal tagged UFC rival and former friend Colby Covington in a tweet after the incident. Masvidal said in the Twitter video: "You talk that s---, you got to back it up. That's how my city rolls, man."
