Our company often holds meetings at or near the airport. Everyone flies in to the same spot and meets the Calgary guys at a hotel near the airport. After the meeting you fly home often needing an overnight room if the meeting is all day.

I have stayed in a few airport hotels in Europe due to an early flight the next morning. I usually try and maximize my time in the cities, but an airport stay is quite relaxing prior to a day of travel. I have had a few stressful drives to airports in the past despite the best laid plans, and each time is becomes less exhilarating and more draining. Gettin' old.

I've stayed at the Sheraton at Pearson a couple times after a late arrival and going to be in Toronto for a few days. It can also help if you're needing a rental car while in town when arriving late. Save a rental day plus an overnight parking charge by picking it up the next morning.

That's better than sleeping on the cold metal benches inside the terminal, which I did Sunday at EWR for my super early YYZ flight!

Delta. Not sure if 100% final but rumoured that Delta will be replacing their existing with this one.
Does that mean another brand will occupy the old Delta location...

Calgary, AB. - It was another record-breaking year at Calgary International Airport (YYC), with over 13.6 million passengers travelling through the airport in 2012. While passenger traffic grew just over six per cent last year, cargo activity also grew with an increase of five per cent to over 117,000 metric tonnes. YYC is the leading passenger hub and cargo gateway in Alberta with the most extensive passenger service network in central Canada and is one of only three airports in Canada to offer passengers nonstop scheduled service to both Europe and Asia.

Probably phrasing it like that as a mental push to keep them from being lumped in with YVR.

What are the other two? I would guess two out of Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal (slight possibility of Winnpeg.)
Or would Montreal and Toronto be too far east to hit Asia? (Or could they take a polar route?)

Bigtime (or someone else) could confirm, but I am almost certain it would be Vancouver and Toronto.

Has to be those two, unless YEG has flights to Asia.
YVR - AMS and YVR - HKG (flown both) knocks that off

Yup, the other two are Vancouver and Toronto. Montreal has no non-stop flights to Asia.
We are very close behind Montreal for third busiest airport (passenger numbers). I think this year with the AC Express increases and WestJet Encore we could very well surpass them and take over the #3 spot.

I need to correct my last post, even the Airport Authority is wrong in the statement about there being only 3 cities in Canada with service to Europe and Asia.
Montreal does make the cut, Qatar Airways serves Montreal to its hub at Doha. Which is technically part of Asia.

Somewhat related, but I heard Air Canada will be getting rid of the dash 8 flights between Calgary and Grande Prairie and routing their AC Express Q400 planes between the cities.
The current setup almost never has an empty seat so the added capacity will be great and the extra passengers will help Calgary surpass Montreal.

You are correct, the Q400 flights are scheduled to start to Grande Prairie in March.

Do you know if it will be new planes or repurposed planes?
Hopefully this pushes Westjet to up their game as well.

The Q400 is a Dash 8, just the latest version of them. Much faster than the other variants and quieter in the cabin too (thus the Q designation).
