6 is the best solely for Christopher Plummer quoting Shakespeare. Seriously, and the rest of the movie is kick-ass too. Also, Christian Slater in a Star Trek movie?
Apparently Slater was a massive Trekkie and just wanted to be in it, no matter how small the part. Pretty cool that they gave him his wish.
2 will forever be my personal favourite, but 4 and 6 are both so good in their own ways. 4 is an enjoyable, light-hearted adventure with some of the best humour in the entire series, while 6 is a solid rip-roaring action/political drama and a perfect farewell to the OG cast. They truly went out on a high note with that one.
The stuff with Kirk and Picard in Generations was fun, but I felt like Undiscovered Country was the proper goodbye for the character. Seriously, nothing beats this finale:
It was a sick move to make Sulu the Captain of the Excelsior and give him the send off but always looks weird that the series signed off with his chair empty like that.
Putting some random guy there would have seemed really weird too. "Oh, look, there's Chekhov, and McCoy, and Spock, and Uhura, and Scott, and Kirk, and uh, Smith. That's right, Smith."
I'm not going to fight you about it because thats pretty much my attitude as well.
Maybe I'm just tired of 4? I dont know. But 2 and 6 are my 'Go To' and I find I prefer 6.
I like 3 a lot. Not my favourite but definite the top of the "rest". I'm old now, if I had a chance to save a friend, yeah, I'd do the same damn thing.
2 or 6
4
3

I like how the chair is absolutely eviscerated.
Chekhov runs weapons...that is the Helm. There is literally nobody flying the ship.
"Where is Bill? Does he know he is on Conn duty? What do you mean Bill is dead?"

It was a big deal back in the 90s that Christian Slater had a cameo because Christian Slater was supposed to be a big deal. Then suddenly, he was not anymore.

#### up too many films because of a mixture of drug problems and stupid choices and it doesn't matter how big you were. You stop getting cast.
Paper thin, soap opera plot, miserable special effects, characters acting out of character.
Look...if you want to start poking holes in the very serious and complex plot of Star Trek 5 we could be here all night.
There was a 'fan dance' there were some rocket boots...maybe or not 'God' as well as all of Spock's extended family. They should have introduced Spock's dog.
Look...it was a bit of a muddled mess. I dont think anyone disputes that.
But, if we ask ourselves..."Why do we watch Star Trek 5" the only reasonable answer is..."Because its there."

The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Locke For This Useful Post:
5 is such a mess in tone. They tried to do a comedy like TVH but also have it be this deep meaningful literal search for God. Still better than Nemesis tho.
