Hayden block is over rated when it comes to meat.
Lots of whisky though.

I don't own Paros, but every time I've been there, all of the food has been top notch and equal if not better than Jerusalem shawarma and we love Jerusalem Shawarma.
That being said, I haven't been in a couple of months. I didn't know they opened a new location downtown, so maybe they sent their best guys down there to get the store up and running.

I agree. They are very inconsistent. I was there in the fall and had some really good food, since then been a few times where the food was just bad. Last time, the chips and queso which is my normal favorite was cheese water. Just gross.
That said it is the best drink spot in the summer. I still like to go. The alternative being that meatball place. No thanks.

Unpopular opinion.
Went to Ten Foot Henry last night and unfortunately, it didn't really live up to the hype.
It wasn't terrible, but wasn't as stellar as everyone says.
We liked 3/5 of the dishes. The tomato appetizer, spaghetti and the cherry donut desert. The chicken was overcooked and really dry, and we didn't like the jerk roasted cauliflower.
Tables are really close together too. I hate that. I bet there was a foot or two between our table and the ones beside us.
When a chick from the next table was leaving, her butt almost knocked my wine glass over.
7/10. Not on my banned list, but not in a rush to go back.

Where to eat with just 48 hours in these great Canadian locales — according to the chefs!

Chef Jenny Chan and Vero Bistro are highly underrated for brunch. That's fine by me as I usually don't have to wait too long to get a table. Check them out for lunch and dinner, too! Thi Thi Vietmanese Submarine by the Harry Hayes Building is also great for lunch. I always get the beef sate; it's super spicy but so worth it. They're typically lined up out the door, but they're quite efficient so the wait isn't usually that long.
For dinner, Bridgette Bar is serving some of the best food in Calgary right now. I recently tried Chef JP Pedhirney's beef carpaccio and it is one of the best bites I've had in a long time. Aside from the food, the room is amazing, great for special occasions as well as a casual night out.
I always try to make it to Bar Von Der Fels right after work because the food there is just so good. The kitchen is tiny, but that means Chef Douglas King has total control over his small but ever-changing menu. The wine program is also super fun, so you'll always find something interesting to go with your meal.
Where do the locals really dine? This is a cop-out answer, but there are so many amazing restaurants in this city, I feel like the locals are supporting everyone who is doing delicious, creative food. I've always loved what Chef Paul Rogalski is doing at Rouge. It's a classic Calgary restaurant that speaks to local cuisine. Try to go when their backyard garden is producing for the kitchen — you can't get fresher than that. Maruju Sushi is a hidden gem. Go for the omakase at dinner and you will not be disappointed. Chef Dean Chan is creative and always has top quality fish in his cooler. Foreign Concept is definitely worth the hype. #TeamJinhee has support all across this nation and even beyond, but Chef Jinhee Lee is not just a TV star; her food is consistently delicious and always looks amazing.
If I were to have one essential bite in Calgary, it would be the Alley Burger at Charbar — a pork and roasted garlic sausage patty topped with Quebec cheese curds and piri piri aioli are delicious and this burger has so much history and notoriety here in Calgary. Co-chefs John Jackson and Connie DeSousa used the sell them on random nights in the back alley of Charcut for $5. The buzz they created was unreal. Go see why.

Sure, but restaurants don't usually have a long life span. In another thread we tried to list restaurants over 30 years old, and there was not that many.
How many last 10 years?

I went to Oceana to celebrate my anniversary. My wife and I held our reception there. I had such a good meal, and after talking with the owner, they’re doing okay, but the recession has hit them hard.

Not local to Calgary but restaurants in Vancouver are really having a tough time, lots closing monthly even weekly. Cost to do business is just to high with rent and labour plus no one wanting to work in them. One's that do open are trending towards self-serve while others are strictly take-out or delivery only with no dining space. Might see an influx of trucks but that is already becoming saturated.

My family has a tradition of going to Smugglers for their Sunday prime rib special. That place has been around forever and hasn't changed a bit.

I need to do that. My brother raves about it and I've not been in the 10 years I've lived here.

My family went to Wellingtons a few weeks back. The cocktails and food there is quite good imo. The beef wellington I had was excellent.
