Yes Columbus would be stupid to make that deal. The 3rd overall pick, especially in this draft has incredible value. This isn't a Flames things, this isn't criticizing the pieces that would be coming from the Flames it is a comment on how valuable top picks are, especially in a year with such high top end talent in a draft.
Ya, ok....

Think Johnny will do just fine with Babcock. His best years were under draconian style coaches like Hartley, Peters and Sutter. He needs a better coach who can preach defense too because that Columbus team was an absolute disaster defensively. Based on all the teams the Flames played last season, I thought Columbus was the biggest joke in their own end, embarrassing defensive structure, I actually felt kind of bad for their goaltenders.

This is an absurd argument, but IMO Jarmo yells start the car on this.

It's a known value 16OA pick this year, so it's really trading down 13 spots - still a solid pick in this highly touted draft. And assuming no/light protections on the 2024 1st, from a team who missed the playoffs and is trading away one of their best (if not the best) forward, so it could easily be a top 10 pick.

3OA is a very valuable asset, especially in a highly touted draft, but you don't have to look at much history to see it's far from a sure bet. In the amazing 2003 draft 3OA = Nathan Horton. In Crosby's year it was Jack Johnson. In McDavid's year it was Dylan Strome.

Historically there is a pretty huge drop from 20A to 3OA, perhaps this year is different, but it's still anything but a guarantee.

Did I just read that Coronato isn't worth a 1st right now? Lol

With the way people talk about this team is remarkable we aren't picking 1st overall.

Especially because CLS would have two firsts this year (CGY/LA), then two firsts next year (CLS/CGY), a top 6 C that knows how to play with Gaudreau, and a top 6 C/W prospect?

They'd be stupid to accept that?

I'd be mad at Conroy if that was the offer.

The reports from the "experts" say that drop doesn't happen until after 4 and that Fantilli, Carlsson and the Russian are closer to Bedard than the others behind them.

Yes bad picks can happen at any spot, I am not sure teams plan based on them making a terrible pick, if that is how they operate why would they want the picks coming back in the deal?

You are just the king of terrible takes

LOL

Not even top 100 if you look at all your whining posts after a Flames loss

is this site closed to non-members? or is it possible to follow the site without signing up?

Also it takes awhile to get approved when you first sign up. Plenty of time to read the site when you are waiting for verification.

Are you claiming that you weren't banned before? Because we all know that honesty and truth are important to you. So simple question: yes or no?

Fans really over-rate the value of picks - maybe it's the hope that a mystery box can be anything.

Yes, this year's draft, at the top, is exceptional. And yes, the #3 has a lot of value. But some of you seem to think it's worth more than a carload of really good - actual - NHLers.

Coronato isn't worth a 1st? LOL - perfect example of a pick being worth more than an actual person for many fans.

The under valuation of Flames fans and their assets is equally as annoying as the over valuation of Oilers fans and their assets.

The notion of being worth a 1st or not is pretty stupid, considering the value of 1sts is extremely variable.

IMO he is 'worth' a 1st (with a presumed outcome in the ~teens), but I think it's pretty unlikely you could actually trade Coronato for a 1st:

- he's probably not worth a top 10 pick, especially this year
- he's not ready enough to be a difference maker for a team picking in the 20s

So the only way would be a team with multiple picks trading a lower one (DET 17OA, CHI 19, or several teams in the 20s), or maybe you get a heavily protected (top 10 or top 15) pick a few years out.

But then I'd also ask if anyone would be willing to part with 16OA or a future 1st for Tyler Boucher or Isak Rosen?

It would be great if the ignore feature would extend to posts that quote the people you're trying to ignore.
