Their comment about the sun in Canada feeling more strong is something I've actually heard many times from people from other countries (India, China, South Korea).
Might have something to do with the smog/air pollution levels in the major cities.

Sun is definitely strong here in Canada. The atmosphere is substantially thinner as you get away from the equator so there is far less dust etc. for the sun's rays to travel through in Canada.

So the sun is hotter in Canada than it is in Philly? (Similar latitude to Beijing). Or Washington DC, and Athens Greece (Seoul)…? This is the first of heard of this. Vacationing south the sun feels significantly hotter.

There's going to be variation with regional conditions, including pollution/smoke, but it's the same thing as it being easier to get sunburned at higher elevations. Thinner atmosphere lets more UV radiation through.

Really nice video from an Australian travel vlogger from her trip to Shanghai. Brings me back to when I went there during a vacation. One of the friendliest vibes I've experienced in my travels with awesome food and a neat mix of more traditional Shanghainese spots to newer and very modern places. Funny that she went to a park she has been to before in search of older seniors singing and dancing because that's one of the things I'll always remember about the older people in China - very healthy and active!

That first neighbourhood she shows, Cite Bourgogne/Bugaoli, is my favorite place I've ever lived. I didn't recognize the neighbors she spoke to there but the security guard looks familiar. We had a place that had been fully renovated to be modern inside but keeping with the style and had really high ceilings still showing the old wooden beams and with beautiful, tall, old iron windows etc., but most places were in the neighborhood were still really old-fashioned. Our next door neighbor had lived there in the same home for over seventy years. I visited her and our other neighbor across the alley last time I was back, but I haven't been able to visit again since covid and I'm not sure how they came through it. It was mostly old Shanghainese families there with quite a few seniors who I hope have all been okay. It's an incredible place to be. Beautiful, full of history, genuinely friendly community, surrounded by culture, and right at the center of everything. I miss that place a lot and don't think I've ever been as happy in any other neighborhood.
Everything she showed in that video of the surrounding area was really legit too. I didn't know the first place she went to for wontons or the last little Shanghainese place she went, but erguang wontons are very legit, though I guess that's a new modern store since the old neighborhood they used to be in got knocked down. Best wontons with peanut sauce in the city. The Shanghainese dishes she ordered in the last little place were right on too. So good. Great video.
