Yes. Everybody from ownership to management have said they think this team is close. They are not rebuilding anytime soon.

It's pretty much impossible to rebuild. The contracts that can't be moved are with players good enough to keep the team in the mushy middle at the very least. In order to get rid of them, you would need to add futures to the other team, which defeats the purpose of a rebuild.
The team was put on rails last summer and only has one direction now.

3 cup finalists since 2017 were in the "mushy middle" its not all bad
besides...with a million things going wrong last season they were 16th of 32 teams. Coaching and goaltending can easily have them in the upper echelon let alone improving other things.
If it fails again we can have another conversation.

3 out of 12 finalists being from the "mushy middle" seems pretty bad to me, to be honest.
I'll agree that if a few more things go right, the Flames can be a strong team. But I don't think Markstrom has a long high-level playoff run in him.

What about Hanifin to the wings for #17? Maybe if Reinbacher and ASP are gone by our pick at 16, they'd want to move the pick for a young dman that can play right now.

daily faceoff hast 5 RFAs that might not get qualifying offers:
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/ma...this-offseason
1. Blackwood
2. Puljujarvi
3. Gurianov
4. Comtois
5. Bear
Gurianov and Comtois could be interesting reclamation projects. I recall hearing that the Flames were high on Comtois in his draft year.

I would much rather move Tanev before Hanifin.
I know Tanev is worth less but if possible you lock up Hanifin.

I still think poolparty is worth a shot on the Flames.
Gurianov is an interesting change of scenery candidate as well.

I was thinking 17 and Zadina for Hanifin. Change of scenery candidate with all world skill and you'd hope someone could light a fire under his butt.

Well to be fair, no one has said which end zone they plan on running it back into.

Columbus looking for more veteran D help and mentioned Severson from NJ. I heard Portzline on the FAN today mention the 3rd pick is where they will address the center ice position. He says it is hard to see any situation where they move the pick.
I do wonder if they would have interest for a Lindholm/Hanifin combo which would solve their needs.
I still wonder about something like:
Lindholm+Hanifin+16
For
Roslivic+Bean+3+35

And? Other teams are not prevented from actually getting to work, as clearly evidenced. The flames are the only franchise that puts up these ridiculous time barriers: "oh we won't talk to x player until after the season" "we can't make trades while the playoffs are still going! Even though we didn't even make them"

You know this how? Seems like an over the top reaction to a trade that Hanifin probably says no to

I think Roslivic is the only NHLer from Columbus. Doubt they move him.
I would rather one of the younger guys - Sillinger, Texiera, Marchenko.

Portzline on the radio today said Roslivic is almost a lock to be moved before the start of next season. Sillinger is a future top 6 C for them (Portzline’s words).
I don’t even want Roslivic I tossed him in for cap purposes.

Eh. Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri can easily be tank commanders if they go that route.

I think they were out on Lindholm once they traded the LA 1st unless they are willing to gamble on being in a good spot over the next two seasons. Sillinger + 1st is a base that makes sense.
