Was this Backs 900th game as a Flame? That’s pretty damn sweet man.

By "great things" do you mean beating the bottom feeder sharks or making up 2 points on a flailing jets team in the last 10 games? I want this team to do great things...and I am willing to experience seasons of pain to enable that...rather than some short term feel good wins that worsen draft position (see 2021, sporadically through 2010s and most of the period between 95 and 04)

Between the OOT scoreboard and the W, there is still some life to this season. At least it's shaping up for some good drama in the upcoming games against the Preds and Jets.

Time sure goes by fast. Crazy to think he’s played 900 games all as a Flame. Almost feels like yesterday when he was drafted and just a rookie. Love backs as a player and he really embraced himself to the team and city. Great person and well deserved milestone.

Honestly is backlund the best Calgary flames draft pick in the history of the franchise????
Congrats to him, he’s been everything you could ask for as a draft pick/player.
If every first round pick of the flames over the last decade was a ‘backlund’ (skill/talent/work ethic/dedication/loyalty) the team would be a perennial contender compared to the laughingstock it is.
I hope he retires a flame.

Backs is only the third player to hit 900 games played with the Flames, and the first Flames draft pick to do it. Iggy (Dallas draft pick) and Gio (undrafted free agent) are the other two.
Obviously, he is the franchise leader in games played by a player who has never played an NHL game for any other team. Jim Peplinski is second on that list with 711 games played, and Hakan Loob is third with exactly half as many games as Backlund, 450.

Incredible and well done. From my count, only 18 other active players have done what Backlund just accomplished. Couture, Carlson, Marchand, Hedman, Stamkos, Letang, Benn, Krejci, Malkin, Bailey, Toews, Doughty, Backstrom, Crosby, Vlasic, Kopitar, Bergeron, Ovechkin.
Pretty impressive list to be on.

Big win. Hope they can just focus on the next game and not look ahead.

my math may be off, but also looks like the overwhelming majority ?14 or so, have won the shiny thing with their team- which obviously means lets go get one of those for Backlund, but also shows its really pretty rare to be an essential lifer on a non-cup team- unless you are a Shark (yes a few others )
