I just cant see a city making a decision like this to spite a group. Especially a group such as this. I have no clue how the rules work and if the province would be involved. But wouldn't this be a PR and legal issue for the city if they did?

Do we know any details about the land? Was it crown land, soon to be expropriated private land, etc?

Blocking access would cause pickets, blockages by the reserve and overall nastiness. I think we could just move on without being openly hostile.

On QR77 today they were saying that Bronco is going ahead with planning the alternate route, including the interchage at Glenmore/37th. He hinted that without the Natives on board they might not be able to consider reserve access in the new interchange.

And I say good- why should the city spend millions or even 100's of thousands on making sure our interchange helps them? They had an option to be on board, and not only did they bail, but also dragged everything along for the last few years.

Didn't the natives already screw with the city and province since the agreement was we help build the casino, you give us right for land to build SW Ring Road?

Frankly, the interchange shouldn't have connection to the casino then since their word was broken if that was the case.

I'm not sure why we can't just build a wall in front of the casino access. I'm assuming that 37th is at least a couple feet within city ground. Plan A is better than Plan B... if were going to screw the Natives anyways we might as well do it in such a way that gets us Plan A.

Can't find the map again, but did find this.

CBC News has learned that the proposal would see the First Nation transfer 400 hectares of land, where the ring road will be built, to the province in exchange for monies and 2,000 hectares of Crown land on the northwest border of the reserve stretching west to the edge of Kananskis Country.
That's a large chunk of prime land worth tons.

So, on top of the cash they were also offerred land at a 5:1 ratio- land that will help secure the future of their children and grandchildren; as that land will be needed for the hovercar freeway in 2073.

I just cannot fathom that.

It wouldn't be a PR issue at all. I suspect sympathy for the Tsuu Tina position is running at about 3%. Legally, its our land. We are no more required to care about how they access their land than they are required to care how we access it. Unless the city has already signed a deal guaranteeing access from 37th Street, Bronco and Co could probably just say "sorry, this access is closed during construction, feel free to access the casino via other roads".

As noted though, that would probably lead to blockades and other disruptions from a group with an embarrassingly high sense of entitlement, because these natives seem to think they deserve the world for free.

I wonder who the new neighbours would be. Can't imagine they'd be all that enthused with the province's plan. Out that way they'd likely be major landholders (i.e. wealthy prominent Calgarians).

Access to the casino will be AT BEST very awkward while the interchange at Glenmore/37th is being built. If the decision is made to run the ring road over the weaselhead in the 37th street corridor, I can assure you that there won't be any access to the ring road, unless the reserve wants to pay for expensive extra ramps at the interchange, that do not take away from modern safety design standards for freeways.

If they want to do that, they better get someone on the design committee so that they can let the committee know where they want that access to be, and that committee just MIGHT design it so that access is available (for the reserve to build at its own expense.

If Bronconnier shuts off access to the Casino from 37th, he's got my vote for another term.

That land is currently owned by the Federal Government. From what I read that was one of the reasons the band rejected it because they didnt trust that this would be honoured.

PS - cut off all access except for one pot hole filled road. Why should my tax dollars go to benefit a casino that doesnt contribute one cent to the tax pool.

Edmonton did something similar with St Alberta. They forced St Albert to pay for the widening of St Alberta trail.

I can't believe they didn't finish the entire interchange at Shag.. limited access to Stoney Trail from Shag.. Stony Trail WB has an offramp to NB Shag... and Shag S has ramp to WB Stoney, but that's it..

I don't know what you're talking about. From that map, it looks to me like there is access in all directions form all directions.

Access form either direction on Stoney to either direction on Shag, is taken care of by a single exit that splits to go north or south. Note that the exit from Stoney East to Shag North merges with the Access from Stoney West to Shag North, and vice versa.

Access from Shag North to Stoney West, and Shag South to Stoney East are taken care of by the clover leafs.

Access from Shag Norht to Stoney East and Shag South to Stoey east are pretty obvious.

It's a little confusing to look at on the map, but that's what it looks like to me.

Now I've driven past this interchange, but not over it, so maybe I'm missing something.

Well I would assume they are going to finish it aren't they?

I'd much rather they open up the road as much as they have while they finish up some of the access than keep it closed becasue some of the interchanges aren't complete.
