Yeah, I was looking at it earlier today, so I had it in my history still. I couldn't understand what they were talking about so I decided to look it up.

The traffic circle like that to take away the EB to NB will probobly balance out the traffic at 37th Glenmore, so the intersection light timing is more efficient.

Either way, it's short term.

I really don't get why they even need that road to be open at all. Lakeview has access off of Crowchild. At most they should have a Southbound turn lane off off Glenmore East and a westbound turn lane off of 37st North onto Glenmore. No need for straight through traffic in either direction whatsoever. It's a small community. Access to the park etc. is just as easy coming off of Crowchild or off of Glenmore onto Crowchild and then whatever that street is in Lakeview. All they would need then is a flyover for traffic coming off of 37st. turning left onto Glenmore East.

I guess it cuts down on one turning signal, but now they'll have to bump up the time that the 37th north/south traffic light is green.

Map of the area

You really think that they should leave all those houses with one, two lane access? Don't seem to make sense to me.

It's one tiny area in comparison to those being hampered by that access when trying to move East-West. They would still have two access points just not straight out but could get in or out at that location. Sure if they build some big interchange they would solve it but until then let traffic flow for pities sake.

The disappointment to me is that this plan doesn't interfere with casino access.

With the traffic circle being there it's going to actually send more traffic by the casino too.

If they closed off access to the casino, I'd have to take the long way round when visiting friends and family in the deep SW

The article mentions that the interchange is going to start next spring. The traffic circle is just a temporary measure.

As well, there's probably quite a bit of pedestrian traffic crossing there, that need a light, or an interchange. Considering an interchange is going in, why would one waste money putting in the pedestrian bridge to accomodate the pedestrian traffic that would be required to provide pedestrian access?

They should delete the left turning lane westbound, too. Or, make it "no left turn" from 3:30 until 6:30. Traffic that needs to get there can either double-back from 45th Street or just exit at Crowchild.

I can see them doing that. Like you say, traffic wanting to make that turn is not inconvienced too much by turning at Crowchild instead. The only thing that wouldn't be possible is getting from Richard Road to the other side of Glenmore, but that's not too much of a loss either.

Natives put city 'on notice'

Yes, the Tsuu T'ina Nation wants no construction on the 37 St. and Glenmore Tr. interchange until the City of Calgary guarantees access in and out of the reserve wherever they please.

The natives can go f themselves. If the hypocrites want to go with the "my land, my rules" angle, guess what? City's land, city's rules. Cut them off and let them rot.

In an Oct. 2 letter obtained by the Sun, a letter the city received two weeks later by fax, Chief Sandford Big Plume puts the city "on notice" that the Tsuu T'ina "does not consent to any road construction on or near Tsuu T'ina Nation lands" not accounting for "the Tsuu T'ina Nation's rights to enter and leave lands at any point along our borders." The words "any point" are underlined.
Oh man, On or near?? They are free to enter and leave, that doesn't mean it has to be by paved road. Tsuu T'ina needs a nice warm glass of STFU.

Plan A - Cherry deal from the province including lots of land and cash that nobody in their right mind can understand why the band wouldn't take. Not good enough.

Plan B - Compromise approach with the city building the new interchange but not pushing the ring road issue. Still not good enough.

Plan C - Tell the Tsuu T'ina to stick it where the sun don't shine. This whole situation is beyond ridiculous and the band's demands are laughable. Don't impede access to the casino, but don't build an interchange. Won't consent to road construction "on or near" their land? Land being situated "near" the reserve doesn't make it reserve land. Since when do they have any jurisdiction whatsoever over land that doesn't belong to them?

This is made even worse by the fact that Black Plume had originally given a verbal agreement for Plan A, but was then overruled by the tribal council. Now they're claiming the city is violating treaty rights? If anyone has negotioted in bad faith, it's the Tsuu T'ina.
