Regarding the made/not made quality of Safeway donuts:

They sure seem fresh-baked to me. I went in this morning, forgot to ask, but I grabbed a Croissant one and it was still toasty warm in the middle.

Of course, it was so good. So good I also had to get another donut. I ate two donuts this morning... because I had to test if the quality was as high as everyone says.

It is. They were great donuts. A great couple of donuts that I ate after I had already eaten a full breakfast.

I feel sick now.

P.S. those two donuts cost me $1.78 for both.. so Jelly Modern and basically all gourmet donut shops can vanish forever and I'll never miss them.

I don't understand the love for Krispy Kreme. I hadn't ever had one before, but my American friends would rave about them. When they came to Canada, we actually drove out to the new location which was quite the drive for us. I hated them. Very disappointing.

My all time favourite donut is the Boston Crème, but I don't know what they are putting in them now at Tim Horton's, but they are ick.

It's probably for the best though. Since their quality has gone down, I think my sugar intake has as well.

I went to Montana's a couple weeks ago and they had mini sugar donuts and they were heaven. They were warm, fresh and tasted amazing. Best I've had in awhile. They don't age well though. I bought an extra order of them to bring home, and while I ate every last bit of them, it just wasn't the same.

For Krispy Kreme, you have to get the plain glazed donuts. The other ones just aren't the same.

For anybody posting about good Safeway donuts, can you post the location? I know the 130th ave is the one I describe as hit and miss. Kensignton seems better, but that's also because they have the lemon filled ones.

the one beside Dalhousie station was where I stopped this morning, but that's not my local, so i'll report back if I find any other good spots.

they also had the lemon-filled ones.

...CONNECTION? No, probably not.

Even then, only if they're hot off the line.

I'm going to have to ban myself from this thread, I want a donut so bad.

Only because they are the only option in many areas. They generally aren't great.

Looks like a krispy kreme opened in Kalispell a few months back. I guess that would be the closest.

I can confirm that glamorgan bakery does have the Texas donuts. My wife picked me up a couple. They are still great

I will second this, they have one type that I have yet to find at another Safeway. It is a cinnamon sugar coated donut with apple filling. MMM so good. I would go there on my break after 7 and get the 50% off deal on the donuts, alas that is no longer.

Oh yeah, that is a gooder, especially if you want one a little less sweet. Didn't know it was Saddleridge exclusive.
