The Gio cap is nonsense, so stop with that. I know we are all antsy for him to sign. Him missing any time is bad for him and bad for the club. A true example of lose-lose.
At least we don't have the equivalent of gaudreauvertime posting in this thread to make things worse.

That's a brilliant user name. Someone totally needs to take that.

BUT the Flames would really miss Brodie.

I'm guessing someone missed the Laine is a one trick pony that scored all of his goals in one month and does nothing else so should be bridged to avoid the risk of assuming he's elite narrative.

He had such a weird stat line last year. 21 goals by the end of November. 9 the rest of the season.

Since Laine's so static and one-dimensional, teams likely just watched film on him and adapted to his quick release by always having someone in his shooting lane. He needs to grow his game in order to reach his potential at the NHL level.

It was Walt Tkachuk's unofficial nickname I believe back in the 60's, although the spelling of his last name may have been different (I'm too lazy to look it up).

Fine but I have to chuckle at those posters who constantly insist on the facts and belittle others for offering an opinion - when one of the only current facts available to this audience is the current salary structure and the fact that giordano remains at the top or the ‘cap’.
Pretty clear the flames are playing hardball and don’t give a damn about the ‘market ‘. Organization has always operated as such and always will.

Laine scores a lot but Tkachuk might be the more valuable player to his team currently. Both were on second lines, one put up 50 points, the other 77. That shot is lethal but Tkachuk does a lot more things well.
Then you're adding Brodie?.... Yeah, no.

Your opinion might generate a more positive response if it were presented with an ounce of humility. Your insistence on the so-called “gio-cap”—especially in view of recent reports to the contrary—came across as pretty smug.

Until Tkachuk, the market dictated that no one should obviously get paid more that Gio. Johnny got less term so he didn’t get more.
Until now. If Calgary wants to sign Tkachuk for 5 years or more, they will have to pay more.
I can’t believe that a well run organization like the Flames would simply ignore the market. They may as well fold the team.

May as well fold the team... that just finished first in the West. Yep, that’s about right.

Signing him to a shorter term for less than 7 AAV is the market I think they will agree to. And I think that is just fine. Winning it all while giordano is still on the roster matters to me so just keep this group together for 2 or 3 more years.
