was looking into updatiny my 250W. It didn't come with a usb cord ... is the update worth it? worth ordering the cord from Garmin? Or buy one in town?

I have a Nuvi 350, and I recently did a map update. It was very worth it.

did you buy the 2009 version?

another question ... took the thing to Boston and New York with me and it never could find satellites. Do you need to do something different when you travel that far East? Worked fin in LA and Phx

They were the 2009 maps. I've used mine all throughout the Western US and Canada, Chicago and Houston without any issues. It seems very strange that your Nuvi didn't work in Boston and NY.

even in Calgary or W Canada it can take time to find them. in NY and Boston it never did find them.

How long did you leave it, and what were the operating conditions? Was it in a downtown core or something?

I ask for two reasons.

The most obvious being if you're in Manhattan or something, then you're going to get terrible reception to start with.

The second reason is that the receiver takes time to download the almanac data when it changes locations drastically (or something along those lines) and can take a long time sometimes to find itself. That problem isn't limited to low-end products either, my companies radar system took a good 10 minutes to find itself and it's a $10k unit.
