I’m feeling a bit better about Fed compared to last week, when it sounded like he was about to announce his retirement before his team stopped him to cool things off. I think hanging with Andy who has had a much more difficult comeback road in comparison helped Fed mentally.
Still, for both him and Serena I’m giving maybe 60% chance tops of making week 2. Too much of a coin flip day to day for which game you’ll get from them at this age.

Fed has a decent draw, I just wonder about conditioning at 39 and coming off knee surgery. Having to play indoors to start will certainly help and I fully expect him to steamroll the first couple rounds with a few 90 minute matches. However he can't waste any energy early on if he wants a shot at winning this. Rewatching the 2019 final the other day Federer was on fire and I question if he can get back to that level.

Yea I saw the replay was happening on TSN but just like the 2008 final I can’t watch any part of it no matter how good the match was overall. That’s like asking me to rewatch earlier Game of Thrones episodes, with knowledge about how it all ends.
Maybe the other longer (or not that long?) term question is who calls it a career first, Roger or Serena…seems like for many years the speculation has been much more prevalent with the former, it seems like neither Serena or her media interactions want to go there much. But I bet for at least one of them, they will suddenly out of the blue announce their next upcoming tournament as their last, no warning and no farewell tour.

We're only a little over an hour into Wimbledon coverage and already Fowler and McEnroe are driving me crazy.
Edit: And then we switch to the Tsitsipas / Tiafoe match with Patrick McEnroe and James Blake and it's instantly better.

I don't understand why they have to bring a 'professional' guy in like Fowler or Hicks who obviously have not clue what they're doing other than to say "Serena" every third word. Fowler is a football guy and Hicks is a golf guy, this is what the research.
The tennis people could easily handle it. And get new blood in, there are plenty of Americans ex-players who are good. Or get Robbie Koenig on a network!

I really get a kick out of the new Rolex commercial with Federer......he may not finish with the most Grand Slams but he's still the best of all time because he's Federer

One more set and Frances will pull off the upset.

Mr. Oikos is kinda awful on grass, his career record is barely over .500. Not a big shock to see him curdling, although going out in straights is pretty embarrassing.

Can't sum up NextGen better than making a major final, being up two sets, choking that, and then getting bounced R1 (in straights no less) the next major.

Nice call NF - If Vasek can win his opening round match, he'll face Tiafoe in round 2.

Vasek hosed on break point by a poor line call (his return was right on the base line).

Vasek playing well in this opening set and earns a break. Currently serving at 4-2 in set 1.

Another NextGen bites the dust chalk as Fucsovics sends Jannik Sinner packing in four sets.

Vasek wins the opening set 6-3. Serving well and returning well thus far.

Andy serving and moving pretty good for a guy with a robot hip. even the screaming at himself looks to be in decent form.
the shots of Henman Hill/Murray Mound bring back fun memories. it looks so green and dignified from the aerial views, but at ground level by the afternoon it's a drunk mountain of trash.

Vasek is broken, but breaks right back to take set 2 6-3. A fine two sets of tennis on the grass from the Canadian.
