Nostalgia is a hell of a drug - and they just lost Foligno to injury. With Hall on LTIR, they can fit it.
Plus he had a good game against the Bruins and recently once again proved that he's the best face puncher in the league.

BUT you would still have the draft to move these players, and potentially more suitors at that time (especially since a lot of the East has made their moves already).
So in the end it really all comes down to the offers you get and if you feel that it's such good value that you can't say no.
I also don't think anybody saw the market being as ridiculous as it's been so far this year - the questions earlier this year were if any team would move a 2023 1st since that draft looked so deep. So I don't think anybody saw this crazy sellers market happening, and I think the Flames maybe missed the boat on that a bit too.
|
I can agree that as a fan we may be shocked.
However, you can't tell me "the hardest working GM in the league" and the "GM who kicks tires on everything" was completely shocked by this and now they have missed the boat. If that is the case, maybe Treliving isn't that good.

Chychrun is a UFA with term, he had some value.

Almost every buyer has done their business already, there's hardly any 1sts left out there.
I was interested in Ottawa because they apparently wanted Weegar. That unprotected 2023 first gets you a lottery chance, that was the most interesting asset available to me. But they traded that for Chychrun. So I don't see a lot of opportunity out there. Carolina is run like a "moneyball" team and I'm skeptical Brad would win a trade with them.

Pagnotta has said keep an eye on the Flames.
Marek and Friedman have been beating a Carolina/Calgary conversation to death all week.
...that's about it.
Sec214 had some interesting insights earlier in the thread as well that could mean we're in for an interesting 24.5 hours!

The 1st Ottawa traded is top 5 protected.

Hurricanes, Jets, Sabres, Penguins, Islanders, Stars, Avalanche, Golden Knights, and the Kraken are all still out there probably looking to buy to some degree.
The Bruins have also opened up LTIR space.

IMO Duclair makes the most sense. Not a massive deal, helps the offense, history with Huberdeau. I could see it.

Leafs still have 4.7M in deadline space. Cant see them sitting tight on that but they have also moved lots of assetts out already. moving Sandin out and bringing in Mcabe and Schenn is a strange one. Trying to get tougher maybe?

I would trade a 2nd for Duclair. That's a good add imo.

I heard this week that a team called the Panthers about Bennett. I would like Reinhart or Duclair.

Can Huberdeau play centre? Wouldn't mind trying him between Pelletier and Duclair if that materialized. His defensive play has improved quite a bit this year.

I doubt Kraken are serious buyers. They are still building teams with a good season who shouldn't overreact.
Jets added Nino N already, are set in goal and D. Vegas I'm not sure of - they may want another centre but their main PO addition will be Mark Stone. Stars are a bubble team now and had 500K in cap space. I suspect the Isles don't think it's their year either. I could see Avs adding a centre.

Murray's $4,687,500 is on LTIR and has to come off.

For the Flames, I’m sensing a process.
If Flames did nothing…that’s ok.
I would really hate to think that any decisions are tied to a game with the leafs. Those would be reactions, not plans.
