No point, all the players apparently want to go to Edmonton for a cup run…

The Flames need to be buyers at this deadline. They can't afford not to be.

This team is great at finding talent, it might be their super power. That's why trading away picks is so stupid. This year they could get some picks back and infuse a youth movement into the team for the balance of the season - guys that come from a great winning environment! Wranglers exist to serve the Flames, and I'd rather have kids here than chasing a Calder.

It's maddening how this team is run!

Hot take: I think we'd have a better chance of making the play offs this season by moving some of these older players and UFAs and letting youth take those spots.
Show me one Johnny Gaudreau / Andrew Mangiapane and I’ll show you thirty Tim Gettinger’s.

Pretty sure the Flames know the value of draft picks. To your point, they have proven to be adept at identifying and developing talent. Even if you’re good at this, it’s still long odds to ‘hit’ on these picks.

That's why acquiring multiple 5th round picks for nothing is useful. Have a much better shot at snagging someone with three 5th rounders than 1.

But even if they win tonight, and that’s still a big if, they won’t be in a playoff position. Let’s let this roster sink or swim as is rather than spending futures.

It was only, what, 2-3 drafts ago the Flames traded down twice to gain two extra 3rd round picks?

Again, I’m sure they’re aware of the value of draft picks. Generally speaking, yes, having more picks is better than not. But are there guys they actually want to pick, or are they doing nothing more than rolling the dice and placing faith in blind hope? There is a difference.

Also, a ‘much’ better shot? If you went to 7-11 tonight and bought three more scratch and win tickets would you regally feel like you had a ‘much’ better shot at winning something/anything?

I think they're in a position where they have to try to maximize the lower Huberdeau and Weegar cap hits.

I think the Oilers should buy. They are super good at hockey and if they get an offensive dman they could be a sick contender.

Maybe Karlsson for 2023 1st, Holloway, 2024 1st, Foegele and Barrie.

IMO, Keep Lindholm and the youth, let the chips fall where they may with the rest

Oh haha I didn’t. Now I get the situation. He wants us to sell the 2023 1st, Dustin Wolf, Jakob Pelletier, Connor Zary and Matthew Coronato for Luke Schenn.

Lindholm is the kind of player you keep, I’d say he’s the most valuable and important player on this team. Move anyone but him

Right, because kids that have been scouted to infinity are like lottery tickets. Great analogy.

In hockey terms, yes 3 more picks in the draft would be huge. The odds of getting an NHLer are what 1 in 20 per pick?

Your giving up guys that won’t be here soon to acquire these picks. In some cases you’ll get multiple picks and even prospects a bit further along in their development.

That’s not a lottery dude. Especially when scouting is a Flames strength.

Treliving is in a tough spot. How much draft capital do you spend to bolster this team?

Any good goalies available? I’m open to Wolf but apart from him, should BT get a goalie?

Folks,
This is what happens when an Oiler fan thinks they are clever.
