I'm happy for the guy as he seems like a good dude and he's been through the wringer with the demotion last year and the injury this year.

But as far as my reaction to extending him for another season I'm right there with you. The Flames get outplayed when he's on the ice and they get out-scored too. His 82 game +/- pace is -18, his possession numbers are worse than Dube or Ruzicka, and the penalty kill gives up more chances when he's on the ice than when he's off it (while still being a good penalty kill).

It's not a big deal to have him as a fourth line C or 13th forward, but I really think that a better player could be found for $1.3M or less.

Huge respect for Rooney last night during the warmup. There were 2 brothers on the glass and a puck was thrown over to them. The older brother caught it and was super excited. You could tell the younger brother was upset and trying to hold it together, Rooney must have seen it because he came over, threw the little guy a puck and offer to have the mom take a picture of the two of them. It made my night.
