Alexei Navalny falls ill and dies
Reports form Russia, that following a walk today, Alexei Navalny fell ill and died.
https://www.rte.ie/news/world/2024/0...lexei-navalny/
I don’t suppose it matters that he went back to Russia and was promptly jailed because Putin would likely have acted even quicker to have him killed in exile.
This is horrible news, with potentially even worse to come for us all when the future ahem….’leader of the free world’ takes his orders from this vile monster.

They murdered him like they’ll do to anyone who opposes Putin’s fascist regime. Igor Girkin or Vladimir Kara-Murza will be next.

What benefit does Putin get for offing this guy when he's already in some Siberian prison? That might reveal what's happening here.

How Putin has escaped an assassination or coup from oligarchs is beyond me. He’s single handedly destroyed any meagre progress Russia has made since the USSR dissolved. He’s actively costing these oligarchs billions of dollars and he’s kept the general populace under a jack boot. He needs to “fall ill” in the worst way. Wasn’t he reportedly dying of cancer or something?

With a presidential election coming up, its a sharp message to all that opposses him "Wherever you are, whatever your situation, I have long arms".
Remember Putin is old school KGB, they were the kings at wetwork, and the kings of contracting killings out.
Putin also doesn't seem to have much patience, there were probably better ways to do this, wait for a year or two until people had forgotten about him, then quietly have him shanked.
A death like this when Navalny has been poisoned before and other enemies of Putin have been poisoned before looks suspicious.
At the end of the day Putin doesn't care, its not like the West can do all that much more sanctions wise.

He didn't want Navalny making noise during the run-up to the "elections". Boris Nadezhdin has already been barred from running (as expected), so the only other one to make noise during the pre-election phase - including rallying those dissenting voices against the war with Ukraine - was Navalny.
They basically eliminated the last remaining significant voice of protest. Kill the symbol of hope, don't even try to contend.
I'm just surprised it took this long and it wasn't an accident falling through a window.

When tucker comes by and gives you a glowing review, johnson kills the Ukraine aid bill and trump opines that russia is okay to attack Nato, he is probably feeling pretty good about where things stand and can push a little more.

What an incredibly brave man. Everybody in the world knows that he was murdered for political dissidence. Everybody knew that he would be murdered when he went back to Russia. Hell, we knew when he rose up and opposed Putin.

Bill Browder's Red Notice is a superb read. And true. He's going off on this right now.

I hate to be overly cynical but...its the elimination of the most viable rival.
Nobody thought Mandela would get out of Robben Island and become President of South Africa either, but it happened.
Nobody thought Napoleon would get off Elba and raise an army, but it happened.
Yeah, Navalny was in Prison but...things happen.
The only safe rival is a dead rival.

This is all by design for Putin. Your average person thinks that "There is no way he would kill him, do it now, poison him etc" This is a theme of Putin because logically you don't do things like this so in the open. Putin does because it sends a message and everybody then knows it's Putin. Same thing with Prigozhin. The guy supposedly made some sort of retirement deal to spend the winters in Belarus but low and behold, someone may have forgotten to fuel the plane and replace the alternator on the engine and it fell out of the sky.
I am kidding of course but that is the way it goes. In Putin's Russia, he literally took the richest, most powerful oligarch person in Russia and sent them to prison for like 10 years or more. Mikhail Khodorkovsky was the owner of Yukos oil. It sends a message to the rest of the gang to fall in line.
It's complete opposite of what happens in America. In the US, the rich and powerful run the country and the politicians. In Russia? Putin doesn't care and literally kills you and sends your friends and family to prison with the rats
