Shapo. Shapo is down for that.
You never know. If Federer plays like he did today, Denis doesn't have a chance in hell. Shapovalov has more power off both wings (if he can keep the ball in play) and slightly better speed, while Federer has... literally everything else. But this version of Federer doesn't always show up. So we shall see. I think I like Felix's chances better still.

Shapo has only fired 8 double faults the entire event. For any player, let alone one averaging 5 per match, this is outstanding.
He'll need to continue serving well and obviously needs to continue to keep the ball in the court as well as he has. On the flip side, if Federer has another day, there isn't much anyone on the planet can do about it.

I think Denis has a better chance of pulling the upset simply because Felix has no experience with this level of servebot. If Isner has an off day though it's certainly possible, but I posted that Isner is one game away from nothing but tiebreaks so far, so it's gonna require Felix's best performance of the year. Denis just needs to watch Thiem's win against Roger, just stay patient and you'll get some opportunities, just make sure to cash them.

As far as Felix goes, I would counter with the fact that Isner also hasn't faced a high end returner in this event yet. Felix has the return numbers in 2019 to put him in the top 10 conversation and should be able to create opportunities for himself today.
He did play a pure servebot, Dr. Ivo in Pune earlier this season and showed well in a two set loss. Hopefully he can take something from that match today.

Thiem is a power baseliner that took advantage of the slow IW courts. he hits big but doesn't actually paint lines that much; he relies more on pushing the opponent back until they're they're almost off screen and he has an easy put-away.
I don't see Shapo constructing points that way. he rallies until there's a ball he thinks he can blast with a corner kisser and then pulls the trigger. the Miami courts are probably better for that kind of play, but also Shapo is going to see a lot of weird spins and varying depths that are really going to test the reliability of his swings.
I just like seeing 1HBH guys kick some ass, so either result is fine with me.

Love that graphic:
John Isner - Age 33, Titles 14
FAA - Age 18, Titles 0
Roger Federer: Age 37, Titles 100
Shapo: Age 19, Titles 0

About a dozen streams currently up... every single one of them running doubles.

Gotta feel for Felix, he's literally playing only to get to tiebreaks today. Has to suck for actual tennis players to play in these matches.

there's always a chance, there will be one game where Isner slips on serve and FAA has to take advantage.

Yeah I think games 5-6-7 are his best chance after seeing and getting used to the Isner serve.

But that's the worst part right there, get some looks and then into elite servebot mode with the aces and you don't even get a chance. Not only is playing him awful, it's soul crushing too.
