My sense is Draisaitl ask on an 8 year deal could push 9m per season. Oilers I'd guess would think 7-8 range based on comps
Oh please please please be true.

This x100.
They get ####ed by the trade market with less than fair deals for a reason. Clearly people in hockey don't like the way they went about their business to "build" a team, practically stumbling into competitive hockey.
Time for team lottery ball to feel the repercussions of falling into valuable players. Now we'll see just how savvy their management is when they have to sign players on the cheap to fill out their roster and therefore must weed out talent rather than just throw cash at the big names.

I thought he would get 8 x 14. So this is a good deal.
May the Oilers never make the playoffs again.

really?
go look at threads from 3 years ago.
people here spent so much time calling him a bust and Bennett was so much better.
at the time you all thought the oilers deserved him and they were stupid for taking him, and were going to ruin him.
now the oilers don't deserve him? that's funny.

Well:
a. not a bust (but maybe has inflated stats due to playing with McDavid 75% of the time)
b. Bennett might still be better (I'm a tad doubtful)
c. No one ever said the Oilers "deserved" him because he was bad. But we did wonder if they'd ruin him. Silly, of course, because they'd had so much success with high draft picks before

First Line Centre
|
At the time Bennett was so much better. He may still be if we give him a chance to play with offensively gifted players instead of the Chaissions and Boumas of the NHL. Although by playing him with them we'll get a better contract for the next few years.
Bennett needs to take that 2nd line centre from Backlund by force with his play every opportunity he gets.

Marc Spector has his prediction for Draisaitl's next contract:
We’ll predict an eight-year term for Draisiatl with an AAV in the area of $9.2 million. It’s rich, but having McDavid and Draisaitl locked up throughout their prime is going to be expensive

Sweet music to my ears, hopefully teams hit up Drai for 10. MTL is desperate for a first line center and I honestly think Bergevin gives zero ####s at this point. His job is on the line this season.

And this would suggest the Flames have Monahan locked up for an AAV about 50% cheaper than Drai!

I feel like they're pushing that number so that when it comes in at 8.5 people will say they got a steal. I really don't think Draisaitl is worth 9 on an RFA deal. Hell, I don't even think he's worth 8.

The NHL wants Connor McDavid to succeed in his prime years and will want to cash in on the story ... make no mistake about it - if they don't figure it out themselves, the Oilers will be shown how to get out of any cap troubles they face so they can ice a contending team. Your crazy if you think the league doesn't want to make as much money as possible from McD - and that require him to be showcased in the stanley cup finals as much as possible. Sad but true.

I agree. I was talking with Habs fans recently and they were lamenting the both the lack of scoring and the lack of a quality center. When you consider that they need to show the willingness to make big moves if for no other reason than to keep Price interested in signing with the team again, then I think a deal like this might make sense. Bergevin is also dumb enough to do it judging most of his moves so far.
The Habs currently have $21 million in cap space with only Galchenyuk to re-sign. They also have nothing coming down the pipe in terms of a high-end center. McCarron is the only notable center in the system and he's looking more like a 4th liner at this point.
They just picked up Drouin and they already have Pacioretty. A line of Drouin-Draisaitl-Pacioretty could be an elite #1 line that would help an offense starved team become a more serious threat.
The Habs have all their picks for the next 3 years, and they have an extra 2nd round pick from the Blackhawks for 2018 to lessen the blow a little.
It actually looks like a really smart decision for Montreal to offer sheet Draisaitl.

Wow, that number just seems so massive for Draisatl.
9M puts him in Subban, Benn, Malkin, Ovechkin, Crosby territory and I don't think I'd put Draisatl in the same league as those guys.
