Yes, they can sign them starting at noon ET on Saturday. Same as UFAs.
Also, like UFAs, there is a "courting" period where teams can talk to pending RFAs to gauge their interest. This courting period starts a day after Qualifying Offers are required, so it would have started yesterday.

If Leon is unsigned Saturday and McDavid gets done that will certainly be interesting. I can see the Habs, Rangers, Islanders, Flyers among other teams that would be interested in an offer sheet for Drai.
Even if the Oilers are guaranteed to match why not screw them over anyway. They have the best player of the generation and those players tend to win Cups. People are already Calling McDavid-Draisaitl the next Crosby-Malkin. Signing Drai to an 7 year deal at $9M per would be really tough for the Oilers to match.

Then he should pray Edmonton wasn't bluffing and matches so he doesn't lose an extra million a year to taxes.

I wouldn't be surprised they save the $9 million and take the 4 first rounders if that was the case.

Honestly, I don't expect anyone to offer-sheet Draisaitl.

The amount of Oilers hatred that fogs some peoples views on this forum to the point they can't make sense of what is just a common sense hockey signing is absolutely baffling.
I dislike the Oilers as much as anyone but at the same time this is a good signing no matter how you look at it, the kid is going to be the best in the game for the next 10+ years. You do what you need to to make that deal happen. If you lose Draisaitl so be it, Draisaitl is no McDavid and if it comes down to making a choice between the two, they made the right/only choice there is to make.

It's like you haven't actually read most of the comments. What *I* see is a general consensus on it being a fair contract, but that filling in the rest of the roster will be difficult. Especially given how poorly Edmonton does this already.

If he doesn't want lose a million in taxes, he could just not sign the offer sheet.

Leverage is a lot stronger when the offer is already completed. But yeah, if I was a player about to get paid, Montreal would be the bottom of my list to sign an offer sheet from if I was about the dollars.

so assuming these figures reported are true - I would be interested in getting insight into the contract negotiation - what did edm initially offer versus the ask from conner's crew.
will be interesting to see what their roster looks like when the contracts for dre and macd kick in.

Which could be worth it for a team like the Habs, Rangers, or Flyers.
Montreal gets their number 1 C and hope this entices Price to stay. Those picks should be late if they still have Price
Rangers are retooling on the fly and this helps. They would build around Draisaitl and Zibenijad and a few other young players
Philly has a great prospect pool of Dmen and just added Patrick. Build up the middle with Draisaitl, Patrick and on the blueline with Provorov, Sanheim, Ghost
Oilers would have a nice trade chip with an extra first in each of the next 4 drafts

You'd pay almost as much tax playing for a team in California or for the Rangers.
If I was a 21 year old european, I'd love to earn 8 million dollars a year to live in Montreal if it meant leaving Edmonton.

That makes no sense. Once he signs, he just guarantees that he will get paid, and will no longer have any leverage, he would then be at the mercy of what the Oilers do. He only has leverage before a deal is signed, when he can threaten to find a better deal than what the Oilers offer.

...and lots and lots of laughing at Oilers fans who convinced themselves that McHorseshoe would sign a contract for under $10 m AAV.

If Garth Snow manages to clear some more cap, I'd absolutely throw an offer sheet for Draisaitl if I were him. They have the extra picks from Calgary to make a splash like that, plus it'd probably be cheaper than trading for Duchene.

Unreal good player. Sucks he is wasted up there, however that contract is going to constrict their cap big time : )
