The Firebirds beat the Admirals 4 games to 2 and are into the Calder Cup finals against Hershey.

Wranglers might lose some very important depth this season.

Hopefully they bring back both Jones and Emilio Petterson. I fully expect Phillips to test the market.

Maybe take a look at Lias Anderson as a solid top line LW option. He is also close to NHL ready and might find Calgary attractive with the farm and Big club in the same city.

Going to have to look for more help on the back end also. Losing Brook and Rubins isn't a big deal but they still need to fill out the top 6.

Winning is important and the farm is a great place to build a winning culture.

Dryden Hunt lives in Calgary in the offseason, apparently. I think he's likely the next Brett Sutter-type veteran leader/Captain.

Sucks when the two best teams in the league meet in round 2, and it's only a 5 game horse crap series where the top team chooses which way it prefers to flush it's hard earned home ice advantage down the toilet lol

If Mitch Love isn't back as coach, my two cents for Ryan Papaioannou of the Brooks Bandits. A progressive offensive minded coach who developed, among others, Cale Makar

Quote:
Creating offense is at the core of the Brooks Bandits' program. The Alberta-based junior A team that helped develop Colorado Avalanche superstar Cale Makar scouts offensive dynamos almost exclusively, centers recruiting pitches and practice drills around scoring, and plays a high-risk brand of hockey.

It's all part of "flipping the script" inside teenage players' heads.

"There aren't really any players who get excited about defending," longtime Brooks GM and head coach Ryan Papaioannou said of the "No. 1 challenge" in junior. "Instead of trying to fight that battle head-on," he added, "we just start on the offensive side, get everybody to buy into that, then go from there."

The Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks teams of the 2010s inspired Papaioannou to go all-in on offense. He loved how Chicago's defensemen defied tradition by always being on the move and finding ways to get involved in the offensive zone. The Bandits covet defensemen with strong skating, high intelligence, and puck skills. Size and physicality are far down the priority list.

Brooks' emphasis on offense is partially based on the widely held belief that a team can achieve defensively sound hockey through old-fashioned hard work. "I think 85% of playing defense is just straight-up effort," Papaioannou said.

The program graduated Makar, arguably the world's best defenseman (and the best prototype for the playing style), and Columbus Blue Jackets first-rounder Corson Ceulemans to the NCAA. This year's Bandits, who won 53 of 60 regular-season games, are chasing a third consecutive junior A national title.

"To try and do this in the NHL - at the scale we are - might be a little extreme," Papaioannou said. "The players you turn the puck over to in the NHL are going to burn you. You'd get eaten up pretty good most nights. But you could find a balance and bring up the level of offense in many different ways."

The Brooks Bandits are the poster child for bringing in ringers and stacking their teams.

I have no idea if Ryan Papaioannou is actually a good coach or not, but I certainly wouldn't put much weight into his coaching record or his teams ability to create offense when he's basically playing with a cheat code activated season after season.

Flames (Wranglers) re-up Clark Bishop.

Good AHL leader type. Could see him as team Captain.

Hershey has battled back with a pair of one goal wins at home to tie the series at 2 a piece.

Homer series so far, game 5 is also in Hershey before switching back to CV for games 6 and 7.

Not sure if anyone cares anymore but the finals are going to game 7, the home team has still won every game of the series so far.

Doesn't appear that Papaioannou was even interviewed.

Brent Kisio and Dennis Williams are rumoured to be the frontrunners.

Both goaltenders on AHL-only contracts.... hmmm

So the Wranglers are running with four, or three goalies? Don't forget they signed Dansk again... and Wolf is at the door.

They’re likely just keeping options open & seats filled in the event they can’t move Vladar. Obviously they want a 2nd, but worst case scenario is getting the cap space back if they send Vladar down & keep Wolf after camp.
