Some of my Twitter follows talking about Mastodon - how does that platform work? Which server do I want to be on, or does it matter?
Speaking of which, Mastodon appears to be overwhelmed with signup requests right now.

|
The problem is something is going to replace Twitter, and judging by what else is out there, it'll either be a left or right wing loony bin site.
Twitter might have done a lot of things wrong, but from a sports & news perspective, it is pretty great. And on the politics side it sure as hell has been better than Rumble and Truth Social.

I'm not sure much will frankly, for my kids Instagram replaced twitter years ago, Twitter seemed to be mostly providing news and a place to get shouty for the over 30's, I'm not sure it is essential enough that anything will replace it, more likely lots of things will replace bits of it

Obviously it wont just stop, but with only 20 or 30% of its staff its a castle without an army, it's wide open to DoS attacks or just plain mistakes, what will happen is it will not work randomly for a few hours or days on a fairly regular basis, enough that 'is twitter working?' will be a very common google search but of course that lack of reliability will kill its ability to sell any advertising
