What if Musk realized he's over his head and hires a CEO to take over?

Despite the chaos it's difficult to imagine everyone leaving en masse or that they just go offline barring getting hacked. It's more like it'll just shrink over time.

sounds like meta has taken a hit too with their cuts .. thought the world was going one way coming out of covid but people reverted to their pre covid ways

don't have much sympathy for social media giants, although i feel for the employees livelihoods that are affected by cuts , but these companies do not stand for what they once did . these platforms no longer serve for the betterment of peoples lives .. between infornation collecting, algorithms and app designs that are purposely made to keep people scrolling it has devolved into manipulative time wasters that serve advertisers and have hooked their users on instant gratification while reducing attention spans

Something tells me he’d still meddle. It’s his toy to do whatever he wants with. I think he’s screwed it up though and not sure how he reverses course on the damage he has done.

The increased “demand” for WFH is due to the pandemic where a huge number of people across multiple industries got a taste, and now business owners and managers are trying to put the genie back in the bottle.

A recession isn’t going to curb the demand for WFH, it’s going to make it stronger. Why would someone want to pay the extra money to go into an office? Why would someone want to keep a partially filled office as an expense?

I agree with your "genie in the bottle", but as far as Twitter is concerned, in my experience people tend to work more effectively in teams, and wouldn't WFH interfere with that?

It still largely depends on what they’re doing. Walk into a room full of software developers and their faces are staring right at a their monitors with noise-cancelling headphones on.

I wonder if the present attitude of tech workers, and their demands to WFH, is more a reflection of the tech bubble mentality, which as I see it, may change as we go into a long overdue recession.

the thing that ties Meta and Twitter together is they are both run by owners that have taken their company down a dumb unprofitable course based on little more than a whim

I think Meta is far more interesting.

Zukkerberg knows that Facebook, Insta etc are done growing and have entered a state of perpetual decline.

Regulators won’t allow Facebook to buy more social media entrants

They didn’t get to become the host platform and just tax others like apple and google app stores.

So they have two options. Maximize revenue and become a legacy company retiring the largest dividend they can or try to invent the next thing

People are now completely used to Zoom/Teams meetings. There is no doubt that there are some meetings and job functions/roles are better in person but there's a ton of jobs where most meetings can be held virtually without issues.

Someone coding or doing a bunch of finance tasks would be sitting in their cubicle with noise cancelling headphones on trying to avoid being distracted most of the day.

I’ve seen some suggestion that he’s going to bankrupt Twitter and then claim the loss against his liquidation. Wouldn’t it be a problem if you intentionally destroyed a company just to get a tax write off?

I am a little lost on this. If your $44b company goes down the drain, how do you begin to make that up through tax write-offs?

Musk is trying to copy China's mega apps like WeChat/WePay etc. where with billions of people, almost nobody uses currency anymore and everybody is accustomed to communicating and paying via the same application.

Is there really a market for another? How would this edge out what exists in smart device payment systems already? I mean, you can practically enroll almost every credit card into your phone as an online payment method or for nfc payments in person.

A number of posts this morning that indicate they’ve killed the pay for verification method. It’s kind of a shame, because some of those accounts were hilarious! Overall though, I have no idea what took them so long to recognize that this was a stupid idea.
