I'm sure the reason he was suspended is pretty basic - he breached his contract by being shady and attempting to jump ship despite having a non-compete clause, but he tried anyway. So now to make it official that he can't have any dealings with the supposed new team (NJ), and the fact that his trust is breached with the Coyotes, Bettman is making it official.
As to why owners would be interested in the guy, I get it. He has business acumen according to his ownership of the Wendy's franchises. Plus he has the tactical fundamentals down (I assume) when it comes to statistics, added together with analysis in hockey. Being young and having that background doesn't grow on trees and those qualities in a package would be cha-ching to owners hearing about the guy.
Personally, he seems like a d-bag. As for those who say his statistical modelling may be BS, quite possibly. But I'm torn. Just because something may not stand up to scientific rigor, it doesn't mean it's complete bs. I'm sure whatever he's selling passes the litmus test, and probably is much better than the classic scouting by looking at a guys body type. I'm sure it's however, very consultanty, and you always have to be skeptical of those young BS types. This guy seems like he came from money though, and has that aforementioned package which seems more than just a complete snake oil salesman.
