Are we talking about San Diego or Vegas/Reno? lol
I guess they saw a family of 4 in a gold Camry and thought we weren't a threat...

I just meant the dudes that guard the bases in general. I assume they are all just replicants of a specific personality type. Type Dick.

You don’t think you saw any aliens … but who was driving the jeep … was it really military?

Flew back from Toronto late Wednesday afternoon. It was on an Airbus 321 that the flight attendant told me was new, but it was one that they bought and refurbished the inside. Free Wi-Fi for everyone.
The coolest thing that that the cameras on the plane were on the tail and the belly. The tail camera was the coolest thing ever - probably better view forward than in the cockpit. Watched it the whole flight, along with half the passengers.

The plane is 22-years-old, delivered new to Air Canada in 2001. The interior was completely re-done late last year, pretty much the most extensively you can refurbish an interior. All of the mainline A321 will be refurbished to this spec, but it's going to take a while because it actually involves a bit of structural modification for all the new toys.

Yep. A bunch of us got the news at 4:15pm today. Then asked to come in tomorrow to drop off any equipment we have. Good times.

We're taking off from Gatwick and, you know, you do the usual boarding procedure, etc. and it takes forever and its a pain, blah, blah, blah.
It was one of those 'Economy Airlines' too and I get seated next to a British Soldier. His wife and kids are together in the middle aisle and we're on the side, super nice guy, he did his training here in Canada, made friends and was coming back to visit them and go to the Stampede.
Anyways, as we all know boarding takes ages...until...
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. Stow everything, sit DOWN and get your seatbelts on NOW!"
I think...huh, thats pretty aggressive. The attendants did the fastest, most slap-dash safety lecture I've ever seen while the plane is moving to take off and while removing their vests and stuff...
So I'm thinking..."Okay...something is going down..."
We take off and once we're in the air...
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. Our airline has gone insolvent, if we hadnt taken off we'd all have been stuck here. We're on our way back to Calgary. Beer and food is on the house!"
It was wild. Like...I always say that the British drink like you're might take it away from them so London to Calgary next to a British Soldier and free beer? We. Got. Leathered.
The attendants did their jobs but not...strictly? It was like 'Rogue Air' it was awesome. Its the most fun flight I've ever been on.
It was "do what you want, take what you want, we dont care...we dont even really 'work here' anymore."
It was an experience. And nobody was mean or rude or belligerent or anything. It was great!

It was a long time ago, but that might have been it. Sounds about right.
Yeah...it was an experience.
Apparently, Pilots and Crews know what its like to work for a company that goes into Bankruptcy or protection and that they can get stranded in random places without pay for weeks.
So...they were very motivated to get that place off the ground. It was awesome.

Acey or someone else who may know,
I was having a debate with my brother regarding the Canadian PM and their security detail/transport etc.
To my knowledge when the Canadian PM and other high level VIP's like GG, cabinet and members of the Royal Family travel, they usually fly the Bombardier Challenger Jets domestically and the CC Polaris internationally.
What the debate was if the Canadian RCMP VIP team and the Canadian motorcade is transported ahead of the PM in a larger military transport plane?? I don't recall seeing a lot of videos or news about a large motorcade being transported all over Canada for domestic use along with his security detail. Considering how many cars are in the motorcade, I would assume it would be a 747 or Globemaster transport plane?
Any insight in your experience at the airport how it works with the motorcade/security detail?
Thanks to anybody who has some insight

I can't recall ever seeing a RCAF C-17 or other aircraft bringing in motorcade vehicles to YYC for a PM visit. Not sure what they do in smaller centres, perhaps they drive them out ahead of time?
Definitely nothing like the US President, where you do get loads of vehicles dropped off by C-17's and C-5's prior to the visit. I remember that when we hosted the G8 years ago.

Flew them Victoria to Toronto and back. They are pretty good. Though I didn’t have a person sitting next to me so I had lots of room.

Pros:
Free wifi (sign up for VIPorter before you go - it lets you have a single session and no ads). It's pretty good and fast wifi.
Good and different snacks
2x2 seating, no middle seat
Cons:
Tight legroom if you're above average height
Poor protection in case of delays or cancelation - they are considered a smaller airline under the new rules so they don't need to rebook you on competitor airlines
Overall if there are no hiccups, you'll love it.

I don't know a ton about this kind of stuff but yeah I can say for sure we don't get any special heavy jets whenever there is a PM visit. We certainly rely on local police departments far more than the US and just have far smaller motorcades in general.
