Sorry 13 games against the bottom 8 teams. Philly is the 9th worst team, but they are around .500 and right behind St Louis and Detoit.

Bottom 8 record:

6 - 2 - 3 - 15 out of 22 point - .682 point %

Top 8 Record:

5 - 6 - 2 - 12 of 26 points - .462 point %

Some wasted points against the bottom 8 but not a horrible point %. Also, pretty decent against the top 8 IMO but still quite a bit worse record.

Absolutely - any team can beat any other team, on any night.

However - and the point is - I would much rather have 10 games against weaker teams, than 10 games against the top teams.

Flames record against teams in 5 team bands ...

Struggle against the top teams as you'd expect.
Dominate against the bottom groups as you'd expect.

16-20 is the outlier as they stunk up the joint against an average group of teams (Capitals, Islanders, Predators and Sabres) (haven't played the Wings yet)

Row Labels Flames Pts % Avg xGF%
1-5 0.350 46.16
6-10 0.750 57.00
11-15 0.667 54.61
16-20 0.313 50.86
21-25 0.688 57.71
26-32 0.792 56.76

I don't know. We can play pretty crappy and still smoke the Ducks and Sharks. and we have 5 games left with them this year.

We have 11 left against Vancouver, Arizona, Anaheim, Sam Jose, Chicago

All those teams are way out and likely to sell players soon and tank.

We need 18 points out of 22 IMO and win more than we lose head to head with the teams we are racing with

Trending to 98-99 points.

The Flames are now 12-11-6 against non-playoff teams, so slowly getting better against the weaklings of the NHL.

Yeah everyone was walking out those stats yesterday, but to me it misses the mark.

In a 32 team league 16 teams are out of the playoffs, but they're not all weaklings.

Yesterday I posted losses against the bottom 5 and bottom 10 teams in the game day topic. Calgary was decent against the bottom 5 but terrible against the next 5.

And as an aside ... shouldn't Eric Francis have said he saw Wills tweet on records against playoff and non playoff teams?

Seemed sketchy to walk out the exact same stuff the same day and say "I looked this up a few days ago"

The strength of schedule discussion was completely valid - they WERE playing tougher competition, and DID have an easier schedule coming, and teams DO generally earn more points against weaker teams.

Unfortunately, this is the Flames, and the moment the schedule was brought up, it immediately served to jinx them, and there was no way in hell they were going to start earning more points.
