No, announcers, him being able to move his extremities is not all that matters. It's great news but there's a significant risk to his short and long term health and ability to live a normal life.

I remember when I got a concussion when I was 13, doctors explicitly said no contact activities for 8 weeks after. That the NFL lets these guys come back within a week is criminal. But as we know guys being out for 8 weeks with concussions would be horrible for the product, so the NFL, as always, chooses money first. Now we'll see what happens from this, and how culpable the Dolphins medical staff is in this, but hopefully now we get some serious change in the treatment of these injuries.

Tua should’ve never been on the field after the hit that literally made him wobble last week.

The NFL deserves this for how little they take concussions seriously.

Agreed, but I think the announcing panel was sincerely shook up and not writing it off at all.
I'm not one to quickly call out the race card, but I can't imagine a high profile white QB going through everything that led to this. There's something really wrong about how the NFL treats the black players the league is built upon and it's getting worse a lot faster than it is getting better.

The NFL would obviously not step in a situation like this and force the team to sit the player, and team Dr's will do what the coach says. The PA will have to push for a independent Dr to clear players to play.

I'm pretty sure they already have that (in theory).

The "Independent Doctor" is probably very similar to the James Woods character in Any Given Sunday. There is virtually no way a guy is fully healed from a concussion in a week, I simply do not believe it. These guys should be medically suspended for at least four weeks to truly heal, and partially because these guys are always trying to prove how tough and manly they are. Protect them for themselves even if it hurts the product.

This could get very ugly for the Dolphins and the NFL, and it should. The fact that Tua was allowed to come back into last Sunday's game when he was CLEARLY concussed was a complete joke in and of itself. And then they double down and send him back out for another game 4 days later? 4 days?
The guy could be in a bad way for the rest of his life now, and for what? To play the 4th game.of the season?
Needs to be some sort of reckoning re: player safety in the NFL. Hopefully this incident kickstarts it.

On the weekend it was the Dolphins that called it a back injury, so the independent doctor has his hands tied a bit. Not completely immune but that bit of decption from the Dolphins puts things in a greyer area.
I'll take issue nfotiu, don't think it has anything to do with race one bit. Tua has a voice in it as all Qbs do. Yes there is pressure on the sidelines to have the QB continue to play, or any player, and most players have had concussions in playing football to some degree and learn to shake the small ones off, but black or white or whatever, and whatever position, that sort of desire from the player to stay in the game as to not lose his spot or not help the team, while being encouraged by sideline staff, is colorblind.

This is non-sense and has very little to do with the situation in my opinion. It is because of the players stature and importance to the team much moreso than race. Look at the Chargers and Herbert this season. A white QB that took a couple shots and was obviously significantly injured but was put back into the game. The next week he played with a cracked rib cartilage because they shoot him up with pain killers and it definitely looked like he wasn't ready to play. A number of years ago there was an equally bad head slam for Case Keenum. This was just after the concussion protocol stuff started to become more important. It was very similar to Tua where he got up and fell over. He was looked at on the field and put right back into the game. There are many other cases and really the NFL doesn't care at all about player safety regardless of race.

On the subject of the actual game, Zac Taylor is not a good coach. Having a brutal night.

Has nothing to do with race. Just medical staff ineptitude.

You know when you haven't been able to run up the middle all night, and you have three big target guys going up against a hurting Miami secondary, you just gotta run three dives in a row.

McDaniels deciding that the ground game is the answer when the Bengals are stacking the box isn't great either. I get Teddy blows, but at least disguise it a bit.

It certainly has been a classic Thursday nighter.
