Yeah, the eye of the hurricane is supposed to be a puck. Though less of an 'eye puck', it is aesthetically better when it's more subtle.
Thinking of the eye as a puck, btw, look at how off the 3D is of that logo. It's as if the puck and the hurricane are different perspectives. Just terrible.
Cleaned up (as Nashville did) keeps the established identity, and while giving the worst looking team in the NHL a bump in looks. It still won't be the best, mind you, but it won't be an eyesore.

That is hilariously bad. How had that gotten though an entire team of designers and management? I'll guarantee it came up, but someone made the argument that 1 flag looks better... and he somehow won.
