Didnt see a thread yet for this season.

I'm heading out snowboarding at either Nakiska or Sunshine this Friday.

Anybody hit the slopes yet?

Just got back from Whistler. Snow was meh, but I had never been there so it was fun to check out.

I’ve been at Louise the past two weeks. We need at least one big dump just for the groomers. We need many dumps for any of the good terrain. No snow on the forecast.

I think last season spoiled my expectations for snow in the Rockies. I keep expecting fresh snow all the time.

Have been out ski touring the last couple weekends. The routes off highway 93 have been surprisingly good, but we really need a good dump of snow to cover up the rocks to access some of the more exposed terrain.

Has anyone been skiing at Nakisha over the past 2-3 days.

Wife wants to go to Nakisha, I want to go to lake Louise, so the mid point is likely sunshine

I can't imagine Nakiska has all that much snow, judging by how dry the highway area is. I was at Lake Louise on the 24th. it appears there is more snow the further west you go, but Sunshine may be decent. Norquay area was looking pretty thin still.

Louise was in decent shape, though still lots of thin areas. I managed to find a nice field of rocks below Whitehorn in the fresh pow off to the left at the bottom. It did not end well for me or my skis.

Went skiing at Castle last weekend. I was surprised actually at the snow they had. One of the better early skiing seasons I've had in a while. Still some rocks here and there in the trees, but there was an ability to find some powder. My only complaint is it seems as though they did not clear the underbrush that well in the summer as a decent amount of bush was popping up where it has not previously.

I'm not a skiier but my son is into it and is going with some friends on Sunday to Nakiska. I'm about to buy a pass and a rental package on their website - am I paying over the odds for it? $70 all in doesn't seem bad.... Also - keeps asking for promo codes, any with some to share?

Are you getting your lift ticket and rentals for that price? If so that's a very good price, especially when the hill jack up their prices with "Holiday Rates" for the next week and a bit.

I'd that's just for rentals then don't rent at the hill. I have a very bias opinion seeing as I manage Sports Rent in town but we are cheaper and quicker than renting at the hill. You can also pop by the night before to grab your rentals for no extra charge so you don't have to waste time in the morning, or we open at 6am if you prefer the morning option.

fleuryisgod, I was out of town in October for your tuning deal, and due to the above mentioned incident, my edges could use a grind. What's your regular price for that?

Ok - thanks for the info. I'll pop up to Sport Rent tonight then - you guys are out by Shouldice right?

Just a sharpen is $20, a stone grind/sharpen/wax is $40 and a complete tune is $55.

Correct, we are very close to Shouldice. I'd recommend stopping by after about 6:30, we're open until 10, we've had most of the returns by then so we are a little less busy and have the most selection at that time.

Ah cool, thanks. $40 is still very reasonable! I'll try to get in there soonish.

Skied at lake Louise yesterday. I thought the conditions were good.

Long line ups even on the backside after 1. Glad we got 6 runs in before lunch.
