Wow... kinda shocked Girard let both Hungary and China pass him on those final 2 laps

Slightly disappointing day for Canada.

Positives:

- Kim Boutin wins Silver (her 3rd medal of the Olympics)

Negatives:

- Women lose in the Gold Medal match (Silver)
- Men let go of Gold in the final 2 laps of the Short Track 5000M Team Relay (Bronze)
- Sam Girard finishes 4th in the Men's Short Track 500M
- Laurie Blouin has a disappointing Women's Big Air Final (hope her injury isn't serious)
- Noah Bowman and Mike Riddle finish 5th and 6th respectively in the Men's Freestyle Skiing Halfpipe (although our biggest Medal hopeful Simon d'Artois just missed out on Qualifying for the Finals)

Edit: We apparently can't even beat the US in Curling now. HORRIBLE day for Canada

Heck, Boutin's silver could be considered a little disappointing. She was this year's World Cup points leader in the distance - although Choi Min-jeong had more wins.

No medals for Canada on curling outside mixed doubles looking likely.... that was bad ... steal of two for US in 8 end...worst draw attempt ever

Koe could still get bronze if he doesn't get the miracle comeback here.

I felt the same way about men's Canada/Czech the other day, with the 3 on 3. Was all excited for OT in that when I realized the format, but it was painful to watch. Never knew 3 on 3 could actually be boring.

Either it doesn't translate to the bigger ice as well, or we've been spoiled by watching the absolute best in the world doing it nightly in the NHL. Or both. Either way, it didn't work on the Olympic ice.

Two horrible final stones in consecutive ends from Kevin Koe.

Not so fun fact: Last time Canada went an Olympics without a gold medal in both hockey or curling was 1994, before curling or women's hockey were in the Olympics.

Hopefully the men can keep the streak alive.

Yep, much like traditional curling and women’s hockey. They introduce a new medal, Canada scoops up the gold

Kinda this

Overall the US was the better team and the more polished team.

Canada was really lacking especially later in the game, and the skilled aspect of the Canadian game was lacking.

I was almost cheering for the American goalie in the shootout, she was just loving life and the situation that she was in. The American's were also way more relaxed in the shootout, the Canadian's were so tense that I thought that they would snap like elastic bands when they touched the puck.

Frankly, its just not that intriguing of an event as an Olympic event. Its not the fault of Canada or the States. But there just isn't an Olympic level of competition here.

I would expect that there will be serious discussions on whether to include it in the next one.

There were some nice stories. Finland doing well and Sweden not doing well.
The Japanese girl's reaction when scoring the overtime winner in the consolation playoff against Sweden was priceless. She couldn't believe it!

Then Japan lost to Switzerland only 1-0 in the 5th place game.

It would suck to lose that aspect of the game. Women's hockey would die if it got booted out.

I don't. Competition isn't as important to the IOC anymore.

It's all about the $$$ and with the new format they get two Canada-US matchups per tournament, both which do big TV numbers in North America, and decent viewership for the semi-finals.

Not to mention it would be horribly from an "Equality" optics perspective for the IOC to try and do whatever they can to get the NHLer men back for the next olympics, while canning the women's tournament.

I mean, Canada didn't win the first gold in women's hockey or men's curling when they were introduced at the Olympics, FWIW.

Hell, Canada didn't win gold in men's curling until 2006, and only has gold in women's curling in '98 and 2014.

I mean, I guess.

I suppose they could add a 3 on 3 tournament to the hockey side as well, if this is the route they're going with sports.

#SimmonsSaidNothingWrong

I kid, I kid. I did forget about the mixed doubles.
