ALL ABOARD!

They probably take a bit a bit of adjusting to work on all frames. Some of the photos I've seen use a variety of washers in order to get the disc lined up properly/parallel with the pads. You don't want the disc coming in at any angle to the pad or you'll make some nasty noise and ruin both the pads and disc.

I thought maybe I would have to get a guy to weld the tab on or something, but this seems workable. Really hate the v-brakes.

I'm pretty good at kludging things together! I'll take another look in the spring. Probably need a new rear wheel too, as I don't think my summer one has a disc mount.

^ I'd imagine you be looking at something close to $500 for brakes, a disc, the adapter and a new rim. maybe $300 if you go with low end stuff.

I can do better than that! I'm also exceedingly cheap.
Adapter: $30, though I found some different designs on ebay for $5ish
rear wheel $120 at MEC, or perhaps much cheaper on Kijiji
Clark CMD 11 brake kit with disc- $20 Chain Reaction (using it on my front-not fantastic, but better than V)

I know, right? The amazing part is that they come with a disc, which for $20 is a deal in itself. My only issue was they don't sell pads, so I had to go to Ebay for that. I wanted mechanical for the really cold days. I hear brake fluid starts to act up around -20.

For a commuter? Sure. I've got 2 of them! They look made well enough. Not a lot to go wrong on a mechanical. After checking the pads this weekend, my biggest complaint would be uneven and quick wear. I'll probably get a full year out of one set of pads. Everything else looked nice and solid.

My mountain bike pads last 3 or so years, so I was going by that. If a year is good, well then I guess they wear well! I put them on in the spring so I haven't put them through a harsh winter yet.
I changed my forks this spring as well, form Bomber Z2's to a rigid. I increased the axel to crown distance a bit, and it has made a huge difference riding through the crud. I feel so much more stable, and can just giv'er now. I'd like to get a little bit shorter stem as well, just to move my weight back a little more.

swap out pads three times a year on a commuter seems like a lot. My bb7s on my touring bike are only half gone with 3000+km on it and 1000km of that fully loaded with 65lbs of gear and bike.

Pathways are nice to cruise on this morning with a light covering of snow, some sections like Riverwalk were already cleared when I rode through around 0620. Side streets are already getting snirty and soft, tire grabbing conditions.
Don't layer up too much, it is really quite nice out there. I ditched the snowpants today.

Bought myself a fat bike! Norco Bigfoot, 'entry level' not doubt, but it feels great, and even on a quick tour of the local park I had a blast. Should be a fun winter.

Nice!
Once again considering getting a fat bike...that or outfitting my Santa Cruz Tallboy 3 with 27.5 plus tires - of course, would love to do both!

I went for a 30k spin today. Parts of fish creeek were still closed due to some recent bear activity.
The trails were in nice shape though.
