Exclamation [Video] Flames Rookies 17/18 Highlights

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWNvi0RHOYo

Featuring Rasmus Andersson, Spencer Foo, Jon Gillies, Ryan Lomberg, Andrew Mangiapane, and David Rittich. Realized halfway through I couldn't include Hathaway like I planned or else I'd have a 50 minute video. Gillies and Rittich had plenty to choose from as it is.

Videos Completed This Summer:

I set up a poll asking what video the majority of people would like to see next:

The battle between Gillies and Rittich will be interesting.

Both looked great at times, but struggled significantly at others. Rittich looked like a revelation when he was the designated backup after Eddie Lack crapped the bed.

Rittich has to clear waivers, but Gillies doesn't according to this:
https://www.capfriendly.com/waivers-calculator

So that factor alone might force the decision unless something drastic happens.

Also, it looks like a Mike Smith video is up next by popular demand.

They both are definitely capable of making the big saves.. Rittich in the slightly more calm way and Gillies in the more dramatic way..

Ha! Rasmus Andersson' mom retweeted my video.

That brings the list of players, their family, or their agents that have reacted to my videos to: Andersson, Backlund, Brodie, Gaudreau, Ference, Ferland, Huselius, McGrattan, Oliwa, and Versteeg.

I have two takeaways:

1) I must have missed that Rangers game, because 16:35 was hilarious!

2) We have such ridiculous jerseys. I have spent time this summer skimming through the 'Ken King Please Read' jersey thread, that I forgot how ugly the actual jerseys are.

Few more takeaways for the goalies:
-Rittich intentionally leans his head over to cover the net during quick side-to-side saves. The save on Drai hit his mask, but that was intentional. It's a goal on most goalies that I've seen who keep their head upright.
-Both goalies are tremendously skilled. I know that this is a 'highlight' package, but the low-lights that I can recall were:
Rittich: Reading the play through traffic, overconfidence with puck handling
Gillies: Overcommitting and 'bad' goals. I don't know the stats, but it sure felt like his 'high danger save percentage' was quite good
while his 'low danger save percentage' was not great.

I can add Foo now too after his mom retweeted and followed me. She even makes an appearance in the video after his goal at home vs Vegas.

I like how Foo is #16, same number Brett Hull had with the Flames.

I'd love to see a Ferland video. So many here had a soft spot for him, would be nice to see his best season in a highlight reel.

EDIT:
...although of course watching the Gaudreau and Monahan reels gives you almost the same thing (The thought came to mind while watching the Monahan highlights. I could just watch Monahan shoot the puck all night on repeat.)

Yeah I said early in the summer that I'd still make Ferland, Dougie, and Versteeg videos after all the current Flames videos are done.

Jagr too obviously.

Watching the Foo highlights I was really impressed. I know it was a small sample size, but I like his game.

-Fast
-Great shot
-High level passing skill
-hits/has an edge (another player with bite)
-drives the net

With his age he seems physically ready to play. I have a feeling he and Czarnick will be switching lines often depending on who is playing better (if Foo makes the team).

I am irrationally angry that the Flames lost every game against SJ last season. Those games were so weird—I hope that Calgary destroys the Sharks this year.

Rittich and Gillies look just fine to me.

I dont think our record against our division rivals was all that good. Needs to change this year if we are gonna get to the dance. Division points are huge swing points .

Gillies needs consistency in his game. He had more than a few brain farts in his games. But he also had some crazy save of the year type saves too. All in all hes tracking towards being a good one but he needs to dial it in more.

Yeah, it was bad. The Flames were better in Pacific intradivisional play than only Vancouver.

The Flames have more than enough depth and talent now. What they need at this point, is swagger. And that swagger has to manifest itself first and foremost against the divisional rivals.

They have been been Anaheim's bitches for a long time. And they have often been the Kings' and Sharks' bitches too. If they want to take the next step, they have to not only believe they are the team to beat, but start acting like it within the division.

They need more cockiness.
