Default Mercury Fillings ... get rid of them?

Anyone ever have their mercury fillings removed?

Looking to get it done, but I don't have insurance as I'm self employed.

How much did it cost? Painful? (I'm a wimp when it comes to the dentist)

Recommendations on a dentist in Vancouver or Calgary to do the procedure?

Cheers!

How are the Illuminati and lizard people going to track you then?

I have to ask - any reason you're considering spending what could amount to quite a large sum of money for something that is generally not considered a worthwhile procedure?

I've done quite a bit of reading on the subject, but nothing that would prompt me to go have them removed.

I would research it first, last I heard the process of removing would expose you to more lead than leaving them alone.

Lead, mercury, 4 way stops, what's the difference?

Nothing Earth shattering. I had one break off a few days ago so I need to get it repaired anyway. I have two more so I figured I might as well get the three of them changed out when I'm there. I'm not really concerned about the price ... just curious.

I'm not overly panicked about the health effects either ... but it can't hurt to get them removed if I'm going in anyway. I've read that the procedure is pretty convenient and safe nowadays.

Got a filling replaced two weeks ago. Took about 5 minutes. They grind down the amalgam.

Prices between clinics can vary quite a bit. All depends if your dentist price gouges or not. (I've had a lot of work done...)

I'd leave them alone if they aren't bothering you, and don't need to be replaced. You never know how they'll be after they get the new fillings.

If your fillings are in good shape I wouldn't bother replacing them - mercury fillings generally last longer than the alternatives, and mercury exposure is likely greater from removing them than leaving them in. Maybe if you have a huge number it's worth doing, but I personally wouldn't be concerned about 3 or 4 (speaking as a toxicologist who's done some work on mercury). If I was getting new fillings I'd go with composite unless it was a really major filling though.
