Corey Schunemann won’t be back with the Heat. He signed an AHL deal with Laval. https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2020...ee-agency.html

Andrew Nielsen has signed a deal in Austria. Unclear if there is an out if/when North American leagues start up again.

https://www.blackwings.at/news/beitr...die-wings.html

He is the last asset the Flames have from the Nilsson-Niewendyk-Iginla chain so this might be the official tie off for that.

As he is RFA and playing in Europe the Flames may decide to qualify him just to retain his North American rights.

The Heat are going to have a pretty inexperienced blueline if there is an AHL season in 20-21. They'll have 4 rookies in Lerby, Kinvall, Poolman & Mackey. Yelesin will only be a sophomore.

The Heat also have rookie defensemen Noah King (Chiefs, WHL), Greg Moro (Clarkson NCAA) and Koltrane Wilson (Hurricanes, WHL) signed to AHL contracts for 2020-21.

If Nielsen doesn't have an out clause, I would think the Heat will try really hard to bring in a couple AHL vets.

I believe the Kinvall contract will slide to 21-22 just as the Lerby contract slid to 20-21.

Lerby's contract didn't slide, it was a 2 year ELC and they allowed him to develop in Sweden for another year rather than risking letting him sign with another team.

Also, contracts can only slide until the player is 20 years-old. If an 18 year-old signs a contract, it can slide up to 2 years if he doesn't play enough games, and a 19 year-old's contract can slide 1 year. Beyond that, there are no contract slides.

Kinnvall is 23, so there won't be any sliding.

Yes, slide wasn't the correct term.

So, kinda what I was getting at is,

Lerby will begin play in the AHL in 2020-21 and Kinvall will begin play in the AHL in 2021-22.

(^ that's what I thought was happening)

That makes sense and you are correct it appears. I just googled it and in the tweet from the Flames it was worded poorly IMO, they worded it as "joining the Flames after the 2020-21 season", rather than for the 2021-22 season which is why I thought he was coming over sooner
