Francis: Flames admit they aren't done adding. Tkachuk RW experiment this preseason.
Sounds like they are targeting someone for PP help and a forward that could potentially play on the 1st line, or someone who can do both. Which won't be a surprise for some.

Quote:
The Calgary Flames aren’t done making moves yet.
Not by a long shot.
So says the architect of the team, as well as the coach, who shared several insights that should excite fans.
In the midst of discussing how he plans to incorporate the two newest players in his lineup, Bill Peters stopped himself while discussing plans to use new Flame Noah Hanifin as the lone blue liner on the second power play.
“It’s Geoff’s (associate coach Geoff Ward) power play, and we’ll be moving guys around, but we’ll also be adding some power play help when we get back to Calgary (through free agency),” said Peters, who coached Saturday’s acquisitions Hanifin and Elias Lindholm in Carolina.
|
Quote:
Added GM Brad Treliving when asked about Lindholm on the top line, “I wouldn’t pencil anyone in as we’re still going to go out to get some help up front. We’re not done making our team better.”
|
Also for Tkachuk fans:
Quote:
What might excite Flames fans more is a plan Peters has to use Matthew Tkachuk on the top line during the preseason to see how seamlessly the lefty can make the transition to the right side.
“I want to see Chucky on that side to see how he looks there,” said Peters, who has discussed with Tkachuk the possibility of putting the franchise’s top three forwards all on one line.
“I told him I want him working in the off-season on picking up rims and being in the d-zone on his off wing. He’ll do it in the preseason and I’ll put Lindy in the middle.”

Who’s the PP specialist via free agency?
I can think of JVR and Neal specifically.

Tavares is pretty good on the PP...
Any guesses as to who could help on the PP?
van Riemsdyk = 20 PP points
Perron = 18 PP points
Neal = 9 PP points

Powerplay Quarterback

I was kind of hoping they would just use a natural right winger with a right shot in Lindholm there instead. Oh well hopefully he does good

Also i would rather not overpay for JVR unless he's cheap (which he won't be) he's a very soft floater type of player.

Not sure I like the idea of loading up the top line like that. I’d rather keep Tkachuk on the second line and have some scoring depth.

Man I've been hoping to see Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk even before we drafted Tkachuk. That line could be the best line in the NHL IMO.

JVR at 6.5 per wouldn't be bad. He's good for 30 and young.

x 5 or 6 years?
No thanks.
Really, reallly hope we don't go giving anyone in this year's Free Agent group (barring a miracle with Tavares) big money and term.
Scary to think of the likes of JVR or Neal becoming a Lucic type anchor.

I summed the results of the last two years for PP points, besides Tavares, Thornton and the Sedins, I got all the way to 47 before I found a current UFA.
EDIT: OOPS missed JVR!!
47th - James VR - 17g/22a/39p (381:50)
91st - Tyler Bozak - 10g/21a/31p (361:51)
97th - David Perron - 4g/27a/31p (350:28)
113th - Thomas Vanek - 9g/19a/28p (341:07)
154th - James Neal - 10g/12a/22p (365:53)
164th - Kris Vertseeg - 9g/12a/21p (250:10)
Look at how efficient Versteeg was. Him getting hurt really had an effect IMO.

Neal/JVR/Perron. Make it so. Good to hear though.
Wonder if we go through trade route too. Nino for example.

Signs would point towards Perron.
JVR places himself in Monnys spot on the PP(no need for an upgrade.
Perron fits the need of a RH and he has a good one timer. Guy is also great in the corners.
He would check so many boxes.
