Serious question. How long can we sign them for? Is it 7 or 8 years each?

2 yr x 3.5 for hanifin followed by probably an 8yr x 6.5
7x4.6 for Lindholm. Wennberg is a good comparable, and he signed 4.9x6 but that was after a 59 point season which is a lot more than Lindholm

But the cap is going up. I say you give Lindholm his 5m to make him happy.

I've been thinking about it, and maybe we just sign Hanifin to a bridge deal so that we know how much we should pay him in a couple of years. A 2 year, 3.75m deal wouldn't hurt as we wait for Brouwer's contract to expire. Also gives us breathing room so that we can sign Tkachuk next season.

As sureloss mentioned as well, Lindholm is 2 years from UFA. So the Flames will likely have to pay for UFA years, thus bumping him up around the 5+ million a year mark.

Long term, just don't give up any NMC or NTC. You need to keep those assets open.

It's an odd time for these types of contract negotiations. you have the Seatlle expansion draft coming around the bend right before or right after a potential work stoppage. How will all that play out with NMC's.

Hard to envision a long term contract for Hanifin that is less than 5.5 a year. Seth Jones got 5.4 a year over 6 years two years ago for similar production. Guy should fire his agent if he signs long term for less than that. Should be able to bridge him around 4 if that is what they want to do.
If Lindholm is willing to sign a 7 year 35 million dollar contract I would hope the Flames would offer it. If he is a 50 point a year guy or more for the entirety of that contract, 4-6 percent of cap is a pretty fair price to pay for that type of production.

Hanifin will probably be a bridge. 3 × 3.75 methinks.
If they want to lock him up long term a 7 x 6 may get it done.
Lindholm a 6 x 5. Cant be more than 5 for that production. Gives us the 6 prime years of his career.

I don’t think we’re looking at bridge deals here. Flames making a big bet on these guys and the contract status of Ferland and Hamilton were both brought up by Treliving. Each getting minimum of 5 year deals IMO.

I agree, but a 5 year deal for Hanifin is not even close to ideal.
Only takes him to 26 years old, and buys just one UFA year.
For him it should be 3 year bridge deal, or a 7 year "overpay at the start, bargain by the half way mark" type deal.

7 @ 4.5 for Hanifin and 7 @ 4.75-5 for Lindholm would be perfect.

I expect that the Flames will try to get 7 year deals for both of them if they can. I also figured that the cost for the two of them combined would probably be about 11 million a year.
Seth Jones contract is really the anchor point for negotiations with Hanifin unless The Oilers do something stupid with Nurse.
I figure that the offensive production of Lindholm means that he will probably get a sub 5.5 contract.
I expect that he didn't want to negotiate with Carolina for reasons other then money.

Canes were offering a tick above $4 million dollars, Lindholm’s camp was firm on their asking price, which is believed to be just north of $5 million.
I'd guess 6-7 @ 4.75-5.25 for Lindholm.
Hanifin with a bridge deal 2-3 year @ 3.5-4.0
or
6-7 year @ 4.0-4.75

If we get them both for sub 5 million, that leaves us with 15 million in cap space with 9 forwards and 5 defensemen and 1 goalie under contract.
The big RFA's would be Shore, Hathaway and Jankowski, and out of that group, Hathaway might not be someone that you qualify. on defense its Kulak.
So the team would need two more forwards with a possible 12 million in cap space and the next big contracts being Chucky and Bennett.
