Boushie family has started a lawsuit

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/cana...erald-stanley/

Quote:
The suit argues that Mr. Stanley or his family members never attempted to contact police when they saw the young people on the property. It also says that Mr. Stanley’s wife, Leesa, is a registered nurse and didn’t take any action to provide life-saving measures.

Mr. Boushie’s mother, Debbie Baptiste, is seeking $30,000 for herself, $20,000 for funeral expenses, $60,000 in expenses, $100,000 because she was unable to work after her son’s death, and $200,000 in damages.

Mr. Boushie’s family is also suing the attorney-general of Canada and individual RCMP officers over the way they were treated on the night Mr. Boushie died.

Wasn't Colten Boushie shot in the back of the head and died instantly?

It’s laughable that they think she should have provided care to her attackers, not to mention there is duty to rescue outside of Quebec.

The worst thing about this being in the news again is hearing the CBC's astonishingly torqued characterisation of the incident.

That seems preposterous. As far as they knew they were being attacked and as I understand they were so drunk they were out of their minds, you cant reason with anyone in that state.

The RCMP/Attorney General however, there might be a case there but I'm unfamiliar with the specifics.

I tend to think that the lawsuit against Stanley is a major stretch, also in terms of the wife not giving care to the deceased, I doubt there was much she could do, and she'll probably testify that she was pretty traumatized by the whole event.

I mean just reading through the trial, Boushie and his friends were up to no good, and threatened the Stanley family. I feel badly for the Boushie family, nobody should lose a son, but he's going to be dragged through the mud in that part of the suit.

The RCMP suit is an entirely different beast though, and if the testimony is true on how the RCMP treated the family then I would expect that the RCMP will do anything to avoid this one going to court.

Can someone please correct Mr. Boushie's name in the thread title?

I tend to think on the Stanley Lawsuit that he wants a settlement, its about cash. From what i understand, The Stanley Family, however I doubt that Stanley would want to settle this one, I guess my question is, can he counter sue? Would it be worth it to do that.

The RCMP side of things, I wouldn't mind that one going to trial, just because I believe its an important issue and could lead to some reform.

I think it's fair to say that nobody knows exactly what happened here, including the participants. The only thing clear to me is that nearly everyone involved acted poorly...of course who bears more responsibility is very much up for debate.

It's a shame so many people see this as such a black and white issue.

The thing that's black and white to me, is that the Stanleys didn't go looking for trouble. They were at home minding their own business when trouble was thrust upon them.

Coltens death is terrible no doubt about it, but at best he was a victim to his friends actions and at worst he was a willing participant. If anyone should be getting sued it should be the friends who drove him to the farm yard with intent to commit crimes.

By accounts the girls who were with Colten in the car didn't perform and life saving measures either. In fact they tried to fight Stanleys wife.
