Almost. And just right now. Just.
This is the dumbest #### I've read all month and we just had a month of Gaudreauvertime posts.

Hamilton right now is an above average #3 defenseman in the NHL and that's with his struggles.

We have an elite 1-2 right now, so him being the #3 is perfectly fine.

Just because he isn't as good as two of the top defensemen in the entire NHL doesn't mean he's bad. If you put him on the market, 29 teams would be interested and the return would be higher than what we paid for him in the first place.

Well... 28 teams anyway.

Remember the legend of Iggy's poor starts?

Hamilton was crap at the start of last year. Hopefully he finds a way to change the narrative from 'New system' adjustments and it is only slow starts.

Maybe next year we find out for sure.

The amount of nonsense after some losses is mind boggling.

Yea! The coach is terrible! The core is just not good enough! Dougie is trash!

Relax and use some patience and logic.

Preseason is over, what happened, happened. We're slowly getting better, that's a sign.
If we were getting worse I'd be worried. Mony, Johnny, Dougie, Gio, Bennett, all pretty cold. If you know anything about them, you KNOW they won't play ####ty forever. Plenty of room to grow...

I haven't been very taken with Hamilton since the trade for him. Part of that is that the Flames are paying him for unrealized potential. I'd feel better about him if his salary was flipped with Brodie's.

Inasmuch as I'm not stoked on him, I think part of Hamilton's problem is that his skill set is a bit redundant on this team. Of all the key cogs in this team, he's the one I'd predict gets traded this season or next. With some luck he'll prove me wrong but, somehow, I don't think he'll ever live up to what he's being paid. I just don't think he's an impact player.

No one's played particularly well for us but I thought Dougie was one of the least bad Flames today...

No doubt he has been a bit disappointing but by no means am I thinking he is a lost cause or a horrible player. My hopes are playing with Jokipakka on a steady basis will develop a strong second pair. He was paired with Grossman for game 1 which is difficult as theguy should t be in the league. Once the power play starts clicking he is going to be a big part of it

It is a mystery I suppose that will go unsolved....

...unless you, and a few other posters in this thread, read my post again, and all of my other posts from the last few days, and actually read each word before posting a response.

And while all of you are at it, reread most of the other posts in this thread and the PGT thread from last night as well.

In fact.... reread every PGT since at least 2004 when the Flames have had a bad game.

I have read many of them.

I'll wait.

I tried that, but it didn't do anything for me.
I'll stick with the Ativan.

After the trade, I was one of the minority that voted negatively in the poll and someone did demand that we "explain ourselves". Some people just feel that Treliving can do no wrong.

It's worth mentioning though that Hamilton started slow last season but then really progressed as the season went on. I'm still not a big fan, but he's not terrible. Just not as good as I hoped.

Revisionist history, and completely inaccurate.

Boston tried very hard to sign him, and offered him more money than the Flames signed him for. The only reason they traded him was because they knew he was going to sign an offer sheet anyway. By trading him, they got a marginally better return.

But go ahead and make up whatever supports your narrative.

The hate for Hamilton baffles me. It would be nice if he were more aggressive, that is for sure. But he is solidly positionally, uses his stick well defensively, moves the puck well, and contributes to the offense.

I think he has been the least of our problems on defense this year.

This is the second system Hamilton has had to learn in as many years.
He went from one steady d partner to lesser multiple partners.

I'm gonna have to avoid this forum until game 20

Hockey is more confidence and schtick than anything else.

There isn't very much of it anywhere in our lineup right now. Too many new players, new coach, new system, rust with some etc. etc.
